I know the Pirate Bay recommends NordVPN but is Avast SecureLine good enough to hide me from the copyright police?
As current laws stand.
[1] If a copyright owner (or their agent) wants to pursue your IP, they contact your ISP. Then your ISP forwards an infringement letter to you. Then you totally ignore the letter and absolutely refuse to respond to it.
[2] There is no profit for the companies to prosecute you here.
Oh hi Mr. RCMP officer! How are you?
Any VPN will work including avast.
Look at thatoneprivacy guy . He has a good ranking of VPN. I liked using ivpn
Here’s a fun story for you to consider. About 2 years ago I got a letter in the mail from Bell for downloading a “pirated” copy of The Hateful Eight. The studio wanted to pursue it for “loss of revenue”. They gave me a link to a website (don’t recall the name of it) to fill out a survey if I felt it was a mistake.
I filled out the survey. I was very polite about it. And emailed them with a copy of my receipt, and photo of the Bluray copy I had purchased weeks before the “pirated” copy in question was downloaded. Even called and spoke to them afterwards. They went through all this bullshit over a LEGALLY OBTAINED digital copy I downloaded with the code that came with the Bluray.
Ever since then I haven’t worried about downloading. Do I at times? Occasionally if its a movie I can’t get (out of print, ridiculously priced by resellers). I have in my collection over 2000 DVDs, 1500 Blurays and have even started moving to 4K releases. I’m not hurting the movie industry in any way.
I think Avast is not the best option to use to avoid copyright infringement, they are collecting logs. You need a VPN that doesn’t. Like you mentioned yourself, you need a VPN like NordVPN. Why don’t you just go with NordVPN instead of thinking about Avast? Is NordVPN too expensive for you? Because you can find many coupon codes for NordVPN on /r/deals or /r/vpncoupons and get it at a lower price, or just share one account with friends and share costs, I do so.
You can get in trouble in Canada ?
You don’t need a vpn or what not me and everyone around me has torrented many multile TB of movies, games and cracked windows and never once ever gotten as much as an email saying to stop.
Wildly Incorrect. Right now a specific copyright troll is getting default 5000 judgements for people who don’t reply to letters in the mail. There is a huge thread on redflagdeals about people getting legal advice.
I was also thinking Bell or Roger’s rep.
Avast DOES keep logs of ALL activity, NordVPN does NOT.

Don’t ever respond to that stuff. Giving them info on you is how they manage to sue you at all. Unless you get a notice of court filing which can’t be emailed. Then you should talk to a lawyer.
Yes, Canadians are being sued for up to $5,000 per movie.
I read your link, but I didn’t see what you are referring to.
Can you specify?
Avast’s website says that they do not keep logs.
Being sued is something like winning the lottery.
It was my understanding it isn’t per movie, but $5,000 total, which makes suing people more about principle than $$$$.
Woo 5k per movie me alone would be up around 3,000,000 but the laws in canada make downloading movies and what not a grey area you just can’t upload things that’s the illegal part of torrenting
False information - they are being threatened with possible litigation, but it’s really not worth the copyright holders time and money to pursue individual cases.
