I just got a iPhone, what are any apps i should get? (Also pls dont recommend messaging or social apps)
In the good old days, when one would just pay for the app and get it, I’d have a few suggestions, but nowadays, where everything is a subscription, I’d just recommend sticking to the stock apps and be happy.
Snapseed. If you like to edit your photos, this is one of the best free apps. No on-app purchases.
Feedly. Another free app. It consolidates RSS news feeds from many sources.
Airalo. If you travel to foreign countries, this is a fantastic app for getting a local eSIM. I set mine up before my trip and enable it when we land. My iPhone works locally as I exit the jet.
Decibel X. If you need to know noise level, this app gives you the decibels.
UPDATE: Proper Honest Tech is a YouTube channel with a lot of iPhone tips.
AdGuard, Noir (these two are Safari extensions), Infuse.
Bitwarden. TickTick. Spending Tracker.
Not an app but a safari extension, Noir. This makes webpages on Safari turn into dark mode and I cannot do without it!
Check „Structure“
Pretty nice and simple app to organise your day.
App of the year btw.
If you like to edit photos: Photomator
Carrot weather, things 3, omnivore, obsidian, working copy, and spark
Musi - https://apps.apple.com/au/app/musi-simple-music-streaming/id591560124
Play anything from YouTube without ads and also works when you lock your device. Is my go to music player.
Apple’s apps are fine for most users
Spark is better than Apple Mail
Fantastical is better than Apple Calendar and Reminders (in most instances)
Get the full Shazam app
Get any apps for cross-platform, eg KDE Connect if you use Chromebook or Windows Phone Link (you can use Messages and AirDrop if you have a Mac)
Get SwiftKey for your IME.
Get Rain Alarm for notifications when it’ll rain
I like JustWatch. You search for a movie or TV series and it tells you which streaming services currently have it!
Edit: some more apps…
Pedometer++. Your iPhone automatically tracks your steps, but Pedometer++ displays the daily total steps (and stairs climbed) in a nice layout. Plus it’s compatible with Apple Watch and it can be displayed as a Home Screen widget.
The built in editor inside the Photos app is great, but if you need more editing options and/or support for layers, try Pixelmator.
All Trails is great for discovering new hiking trails near you.
5-0 Radio is fun. You can listen to live municipal police/fire/transit radio broadcasts.
For news I prefer AP News. It’s free and (I think) less biased than other news networks.
VLC Media Player for side loading movies (you can open and play most types of video files from your iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.). It even has a built in subtitle downloader.
Waze for when you drive. Google Maps for when you walk/bike/ride transit. Transit app is good too.
If you take mass transit, the transit app is great. There aren’t any ads, it looks and feels like a stock Apple app IMO. There is a subscription but you might not need it.
AppRaven - it will literally show you all must-have apps for (not only) a new iPhone owner.
Fantastical
Calcbot
iMetalbox
Downcast
Thanks for the suggestions guys!
I use Gmail for Gmail
Bitwarden for a password/account helper/assistant!
Not an AppStore app but rather a stock one- Apple Maps. I used to use Google Maps, but from my experience, in the last few updates Apple has refined and polished the Maps app to a point where it has surpassed Google Maps, and the seamlessness of it being made by Apple for iOS is the cherry on top.
