Youtube won't work with NordVPN?

Hello. I noticed a few days ago that I can’t watch any Youtube videos or shorts if NordVPN is turned on. Is anyone else seeing this? Does anyone know a way around it? Thanks.

EDIT: It seems to be fixed now. I changed countries, then changed servers, and that seemed to do the trick.

I’ve had more and more apps/sites that are requiring that I turn off my VPN to use them. This sucks, especially since I just renewed Nord about a month ago.

You could try changing the DNS server in your browser settings. Same goes for DNS in Nord settings (if you’ve added any). Also try changing the VPN protocol to see if makes a difference.

I have a few apps in the non VPN tunnel. Maps, YT etc.
Have had some glitches with YT previously.

I only get issues if not logged in to YT

Click the two arrows that are in a circle formation pointing clockwise to refresh a connection to a different ip. It’s still the same server location, just a different ip. That has resolved some of the connection issues I’ve had in the past.

If that doesn’t work, try switching to the next closet server location.

While videos buffer every now and then, all of the videos (at least the ones I’ve tried playing recently) seem to play on my end. You could try a couple of things: If you’re using a browser, try switching to a different one as it could be a cookie/cache (or an extension) issue. If you’re using the YouTube app, try switching off the Threat Protection feature and see if that helps. Also, if you’ve got antivirus software running, try disabling it temporarily, perhaps it’s interfering with one of Nord’s features. Lastly, you can switch the protocol in the NordVPN app settings to see if that makes a difference.

If none of that works, reaching out to Nord’s support team is probably your best bet.

I’m using it with my pixel just fine so not sure what device you’re using?

I had problems the other day on my iPad using Safari. I have Adguard installed alongside Nord and I kept getting kicked out of YouTube.

I had to go into a private window and it then worked. I tried logging in via GMail and then went back to YouTube and it seemed to work but when I searched for videos again, I got kicked out.

Guess it’s Google’s way of saying they want folk to use the app so they can serve ads!

I know it’s a PITA but you could try/use Video Lite app.

YouTube has worked fine for me on Windows, Linux, and mobile clients with NordVPN on. Maybe the particular server was blacklisted for a user being a bit naughty or something? Best try reconnecting on another server and clearing cookies and cache. This is all without logging into YouTube or Google btw

Haven’t had any issues myself

I had a ticket opened with them for this and it looks like it’s sorted with the latest update. Finally, because I was spitting nails. It was the Threat Protector that caused it.

I take it most Nord users are using the app to watch their favorite entertainment sources?

I have found that a number VPN provider’s apps have become “impotent” (i.e. less effective) in their ability to provide entry to and use of streaming provider’s content. This issue is partly due to content providers more effectively ferreting out VPNs, and VPN providers needing to play catch up. It’s a cat and mouse game.

The answer for me has been to use VPN configured routers by ExpressVPN (Aircove) and flasrouters.com (running NordVPN’s NordLynx protocol). One VPN service’s router will work incredibly well with many content providers, but hit a brick wall with others. The same goes for the NordVPN router. It’s a constant cat and mouse game. Plus, the routers are pricey ($180ish).

That not withstanding, however, when you have 2 or 3 different VPN services, 2 of which (1 is an app) that can be run simultaneously and access the same site simultaneously, and successfully enter these sites and stream, and in some cases even register and subscribe to streaming content provider’s services, that’s proof that this method is highly effective.

Whatever you do, DO NOT login to the AMFS (specifically), download a VPN app in AMFS, and expect to access Prime (or any other streaming provider’s content), in a different country. It won’t work, or, if it does, it won’t take long for them to figure it out. Then you’ll be frustrated, hurt, angry, and back in this subreddit expressing said feelings, looking for a different solution to the same issue. The apps, in many cases are child’s play. There’s a little more to it than this, but enough said.

If you’re wanting to block ads, try the country Albania. I will admit though, sometimes I will have to restart YouTube and NordVPN to get it to work. Other times it will work from the start.

Never had any issues with YouTube. Maybe try another server.

YouTube works fine with Nord

I had some success with Nord Whisper setting

I haven’t, thankfully. This was surprising. It’s working fine now. It was just that server, I think.

Ah, that’s a good thing to remember. Thanks.
