Why the hell no one is talking about the VPN regulations?

I’m actually frustrated right now. Like what the heck do you want?. Today you are “regulating” VPNs tomorrow you might pass a law that “we will put a camera in everyone’s house”. why no one is filing a petition against this? This should not be allowed in a democracy? Even people from RW (on Reddit) are opposing it. Then why there is soo less discussion about it? And to calm me down and to talk about this, I went to none other than my father. And he was like “We ShOuLd SuPpOrRt ThIs DeCisIon” and actually it was my fault to talk to him about this (he did not even know what the heck a VPN is). And same is the case with those 60y/o uncles who don’t even know how to send an E-mail and sit in the parliament. Unfortunately, no one cares about these topics. But I just hope that the people (at least adults) who understand this topic will stand against it.

Does this only apply to VPN providers that have data centers in India? Because I can’t really see Express VPN or Proton just handing over the data.

How would the government be able to enforce this to VPNs that don’t have a presense in our country?

Dude while this is obviously wrong, this only applies to Indian Servers.

You can still connect to any and every VPN who have a server outside India (all of them do)

Govt. can’t do shit with VPNs who have servers outside India.

Even after the banning of VPNs in China, measures to bypass (proxies and st uff) them exist and are fairly easy to use.

I can only recommend proton or mullvad VPN, been a happy Mullvad user for 3 years now

And some people may have apprehensions regarding the speeds of those servers (outside India), that is why a PAID VPN is recommend. I have a 500mbps UP/DOWN connection and get full speeds on Mullvad Singapore Server

Most of the people don’t use VPN so they don’t really care. Plain and simple.

In terms of surveillance and intolerance, we might become like China one day going at this pace

Well, the reason that no one is talking about it is the same reason for no one talking about historically high unemployment, lakhs of people dying from coronavirus, demonetization, religious bigotry, etc. People in general, have given up talking against government.

Your story reminded me of a discussion I had with my friends recently who are cybersecurity experts.

I talked to them about the VPN regulations. He then joked by saying we could use VPN to Email Bomb the MPs and MLAs and subscribe them to various mailing lists and email services and fuck with them.

Unkills being what they are will not be able to deal with this and it should be able to frustrate them a lot.

We laughed at this at the time, but now that I saw your post, the whole plan seems a lot more appealing.

As long as you have nothing to hide, why fear? /s

how would one go about setting up zero trust network access? I would like to know for purely theoretical purposes.

Userbase is too low. No action against piracy in India is the reason. As soon as people start getting copyright claims by their ISPs for pirating content, VPN use will skyrocket and then a much larger voice will emerge

If people don’t talk about actual issues, why would they talk about VPN regulations?

VPN regulations affect a small percentage of the population who are unlikely to affect election results.

Are you new to reddit?

Check the history of r/India, every day we are talking about it and trying to find a way to oppose it.

How many people care? most are quite fine with Android stealing so much data that they have become immune and numb to it, many simply do not care.

One cannot appreciate and value things till they realisw they have a right to it.

Also, the gormint, in this case has decided to burn the whole hay stack to find a needle.

And who will listen?

We need strong organisations like the farmers have , to have a chance against govt to discuss such issues or else they can just pass bills without h having proper debate

We can still connect to servers outside the country. Isn’t that what most users use it for anyway? To bypass geographic restrictions?

If you know what a VPN you are probably the top 5% of the country

uhh i dont use VPNs or anything who all know what websites i go to on icognito (i have 7 star)

I low key don’t care but I stand with yours father opinion. Like do u do anything illegal using VPN that you had to write this whole post up?

What will you achieve by talking? You think you force the govt to change its mind? lol. This is being done for NATIONAL SECURITY. No arguments.
