I’m not an expert or anything, but I just don’t understand why anyone would use a double VPN. I remember seeing an option on about double VPN, but I never understood when it would be useful.
I’m just curious on why/when you would need this, and am I missing out?
I have a VPN for home network access but only the traffic that’s actually meant for servers on my home network goes through it because I only have 10 up. I still want to use a VPN for the rest of my network traffic so I have a second one in the cloud.
It’s just for extra security. Your data gets encrypted on its way to the first server, and then that encrypted data gets encrypted again on its way to the second server.
Also the only connection from your network is to the first server, not the second server that will ultimately get/send the data to your destination. For example, you can connect to a VPN server in the US, which will then connect to a VPN server in Canada. It’ll look like you’re in Canada, but you never made a direct connection to the Canadian server.
You’re not missing out. It will certainly be slower with the double encryption and the longer path to your destination. It’s only useful for someone who is paranoid about the data and being tracked, so they don’t mind if the connection is slower.
Double vpn as an option when you want another layer of security. That’s why some vpn providers offer this. More nodes more security. Some also offers nodes over TOR - it’s 5 nodes i think.
Multihop is more usefull due to its being optimized for the vpn your currently using, It routes you to multiple locations and makes it harder to track back to you.
