What antivirus do you use?

I have used AVG free for many years and it has served me well, though I do feel it bogged down the system a bit. My most recent build I am using Avast free version. I also have Malwarebytes that I can run a scan if I choose.

I’m not an idiot and I don’t do risky stuff and am careful what I click on, and I don’t spend my free time on PORN sites. I am looking at what different programs have to offer paid vs free. I will pay $20- $25 a year if it is truly worth it. My biggest concern right now is use of system resources. My system is no slouch- I have an 11 gen Intel CPU OC’d to 5 GHz. All the same the AV is ALWAYS running in the background. I am also (maybe considering one that offers a VPN), but if I am going to use one I’m probably going to use a dedicated VPN. I used to use IP Vanish, but they got pricey.

Again my biggest concern is use of system resources. Any of the big names are always going to update this. Another option is to use Windows Defender (Window’s 10), I just cannot clearly find what AV is going to use the least resources. Any advice or input?

Windows built in antivirus with regular updates of database (bassically do a windows updates) with goid amount of self awarnes and malwarebytes free to perform one scan per week and you are 100% good to go. Most of other antivirus software does nothing extra to be worth its price or system resources.

Defender. It’s already built in and does the job. The best anti-virus is between your ears

No AV programs ever since I use common sense and Bitdefender had been reliable to me up until it started fucking up my War Thunder gameplay by refusing to boot it even when excluding it from its file scan just because of .DLL file confliction. Fuck that shit, so I use common sense and literally only go on internet when I need to look up something or watch some YT and that’s about it. On top of the mildly annoying subscription fee.

In short, fuck antiviruses.

Windows Defender and run Malwarebytes every so often and you’ll be fine

Win Def. Adblock, ghostery and care. Haven’t had any issues in years despite plenty pirate etc.

lol why is PORN capitalized?

AV these days realistically isn’t worth paying for. Windows Defender takes care of stuff and half of the AVs actually use the same virus-library (definitions) as Windows Defender.

Just don’t click on shady links and download stuff. You can’t get a virus from just visiting a site, you have to download something.

Webroot uses very little resources, It’s not expensive & when I’ve had problems with Anticheat or whatever I’ve always been to figure it out except once & their customer service sent fix instructions promptly.

Ublock origin is the best antivirus

Windows defender combined with Firefox using the ublock origin and malwarebytes security extensions. No ads and there’s two layers of security between Firefox and malwarebytes warning you about sketchy websites.

Juat use defender and forget it. It’s well supported, and integrates seamlessly. Any other freeware will always be a step behind microsoft so even if it’s secure it will likely consume more resources than defender.

In a few months, Linux with help from open snitch. Also not using my PC as my main computing device and reserving my iPad or iPhone for that

Avast it does a good job tbh

Windows Defender and the free version of Malwarebytes to scan for rootkits

I have read several reviews and it seems that in 2023 bot have great detection capabilities (with Avast coming out slightly ahead) but it seems that all the reviews that tested them side by side show Defender consuming more resources which is my biggest concern. Perhaps I will try making Avast inactive and turning on Defender and see if there is any discernable difference anywhere in the experience, but Avast comes out on top in every recent review.

The best anti-virus is idiot?

I have never heard of Ublock. I’ll check it out.
