Can anyone recommend a good free vpn for me to use on linux Mint? Any help is greatly appreciated.
You can’t have good and free. You need to pick one.
I use PIA. They are not free, but not too bad expensive and they support Linux Mint financially.
I use PIA ~ $40/annually. Easy install, regular updates/features, so easy to use. Allows local network access - if you want it. All programs use VPN tunnel by default, you can choose specific programs you don’t want to use the VPN while it’s running and most importantly for me at any rate - it’s all point and click. 14 US states from coast to coast, 45 different countries all rated in order of ping times that are listed (I just counted the ones on my list). Fast, and I’ve had no problems at all in the 2yrs I’ve been using it. Worth it for me at any rate.
As far as free VPNs go, I have been using hide.me VPN as their free plan is quite generous at 10GB a month. At the moment it seems only support for IKEv2 on Linux free plan. Works quite well for me though.
NORD VPN and Fastest VPN for Linux Mint you can also try iPVanish
ProtonVPN, but the problem that the free version is free and its usually for journalist who onlybwant security for short time. It wont be good for you.
Opera has a free vpn builtin to the browser.
But I use Surfshark (paid), and it’s worth it
Here’s a great site for comparing options, depending on your price, security requirements, how naughty you want to be, etc.
Definitely don’t go with a free VPN unless you literally can’t spend anything on your privacy/security. As others have said, if you’re not paying anything, YOU’RE the product.
Check out the impartial reviews of www.thatoneprivacysite.net. You can compare services and choose what important to you.
Expressvpn has proven itself very reliable for me at least.
Careful with a free VPN, especially when accessing any sensitive stuff since they can easily take your data in return. Anyway, I have Nord vpn and it does the job well, I can watch all restricted channels without any problems. Plus they usually have some coupon codes (this one worked for me)
I cannot recommend you free VPNs but can suggest a good and inexpensive VPN. Look at Veepn.pro with this promo code OFF51. It cost only $1 per month but protects your online privacy at a high level.
I use ProtonVPN. Their paid version is better, of course, but the free one works fine.
Have been using Mullvad for about a year now. They have a great Linux client which is quick and easy to set up
Proton VPN. Free and secure and more importantly an open source. Unlimited bandwith, limited speed, no torrent.
Wow, there’s a bunch of fanboys out here. Worse than the waifu wars in r/Anime, Jesus
Came here to say exactly this. Mullvad as is awesome and seems to take privacy seriously. There is no email address to link you to an account and they offer private payment options.
Depends on your definition of “good” I suppose. The free version of Proton is nowhere near good enough for me.
