Using Nest Wifi with VPN Router

I’m wanting to get a VPN router.

Currently have my nest wifi plugged into my ISP provided Modem, (which is running in modem mode), so the first nest wifi point is acting as the router the router.

Is it as simple as pluggin the VPN router inbetween the ISP modem and the first nest router? Or will I need to mess around, create a whole new network, or anything like that?

If I don’t want to run my whole home through the VPN (just the TV) then can I add the VPN router AFTER the wifi point

(I have a mixed network of some NEst Wifi and some Google Home - the google home wifi points have an ethernet space in them, so I HOPE I could plug the VPN box into one of them, which would run the TV.

then the rest of my network is runnign at full speed, and only the TV is connected to the VPN.

hope that all makes sense? not sure if this is possible.

(info if needed - my ISP is Virgin Media in the UK, I currently run the Virgin box in modem mode, the Google Nest Wifi is connected to that, then I have a 4 x LAN port connected to that and my mesh network consists of 1 x Google Nest, 4 x Google Wifi, 2 of which are connected via the LAN, the other two are wifi )

Connecting a VPN router between the Hub and your Nest WiFi will ensure that your Nest routes traffic through the VPN provided the VPN is up. Just set the Nest up to get an IP from the VPN router.

If you wanted all devices to use the Nest mesh network but only wanted to allow certain devices to use the VPN, then you could try and set the Nest Wifi points as access points and then use the VPN router to control which devices it routes through the VPN. Check the manual for your VPN router to see if this is possible.

Just a couple of things to consider though:

If you set the Nest up as an access point, it will not be responsible for allocating IP addresses as your VPN router would do all the heavy lifting in that regard.

The ability to control which devices use the VPN will depend on the VPN router capability.
