I’ve been using tweaknews’ free vpn service that was bundled with the annual black friday promotion for a while now. All of a sudden, it stopped working; i wasn’t able to connect until i disconnected from the vpn. I went on their website and noticed a new username added to the vpn membership section. There was also an additional zero log vpn tab as well linked to a partnership privado where i had to activate.
Long story short, it seems tweaknews’ own vpn service isn’t working anymore; at least not for me but is now provided via privado as proxy.
Make sure when you connect to it to check ipleak. Having a lot of problems with it. Make sure you tell your torrent app to bind to the privado VPN connection.
Yeah it seems like all the Omicron owned services are being switched over. I tried using it for a little while but the server selection is severely stunted & they don’t always match up with the location you selected either.
UsenetServer did the same thing and I switched away from them because of it–it stopped working with my Deluge docker container because they were forcing their own DNS on it.
if you visit Stacksocial you will find multiple lifetime vpn offers starting at $20. While browsing I got a sign up for email and you get 10% off your first order. I realize sometimes you get what you pay for, but so far the one I picked offers tons of choices, and speeds are great, and it doesn’t have the issues I experienced with Privado.
It will be interesting to see if the Highwinds usenet servers start going the way of their VPN.
geez…spent 30 mins trying to fix this this morning thinking it was on my end, to find out it is a provider switch with zero communication. Their website is having trouble at the moment too.
If anyone’s using this, the win10 IKEv2 instructions don’t work. To fix, select VPN type “Automatic” (the default) rather than ikev2. It will still use IKEv2, but will actually pass traffic through.
Performance so far seems good, maxxed my 300mbit line on a Euro location I tried, and 186mbit on the Washington DC pop.
I do not like provado! It was provided to me by my provider. Their software contently disconnects. I had to keep checking every 5 minutes. By the way, when I did have it on, I discovered there were DNS leaks. So, I don’t use that garbage anymore. Stay away, their software is buggy and I don’t think they can be trusted. Red flag, double red flag.
New usenet provider and new VPN. UsenetServer was $90/yr which was more expensive than a lot of unlimited deals, so I ended up going with NewsgroupDirect which uses GhostPath VPN. I’d sort of prefer a VPN like Mullvad for privacy, but not enough to pay more and this was the cheapest deal I could find at $40/yr both Usenet and VPN.
So far it’s working well. Speeds are about the same as it was with UsenetServer.
Oh wow, that was a lot for Usenetsever, I would have switched too. I’m on the 3.95/month unlimited plan of theirs with VPN but want to look into a better VPN. I will look into Mullvad. Thanks!
