Turning VPN off after torrenting

So I started pirating around 2 months ago without using a VPN, I recently got a email from my ISP about my activity which made me purchase a VPN. I was wondering If my ISP would still be able to know that I’ve been torrenting if I turned my VPN off after the download is complete.

Just bind your VPN to your torrent client, that way nothing can go through it unless your VPN is active. And if you use a VPN that supports split tunneling you can have some traffic go through it and some not.

You said “after the download is complete”.

When the download is complete, the torrent stays active and you’ll continue sharing data with peers online, until you manually stop or remove the torrent, quit the app, or if automatic settings (in your app generally or for that torrent in particular) tell it to stop sharing once a particular ratio or time has been reached.

Do you know how to bind your torrent client to your VPN network interface? It’s the pinned post in this very sub. Read it and do it. You’ll never have to worry about this again.

Just make sure you have turned off your torrent client and not seeding anything by accident.

Why would you disable the VPN ever?

You can do split tunneling with some VPNs. I use NordVPN and I do split tunneling so qBitTorrent is the only application with data being re-routed. It causes some other minor problems (like Parsec failing to handshake) but I’m still able to stream from my computer using Sunshine/Moonlight, so the tunneling must be working properly.

Wanted to say this.

Still seems that people think torrenting means “downloading”, as opposed to “sharing”.

Hi, I did not get to see any tutorial on binding on transmission. Do you have any idea ?

If vpn provider does not support split tunneling, quite a number of services are hostile to the usage of the VPN.
F. E. Paypal.

Logging into your bank. eBay. Any number of everyday websites you have accounts with.

i’d suggest trying qbittorrent
