I have a 300mb internet at my home.
My tv is connected via cable to the router and when speedtesting the tv internet speed I get 100mb (do you know why?)
Anyway,
Shouldn’t 100mb be enough to stream movies on 4k hdr?
It is loading every two minutes or so.
Please help
Thanks.
I have the same problem. Ethernet or wifi doesn’t matter, it keeps loading for a few minutes and then it’s working all of a sudden. This only happens on my tv’s, it’s super fast on other devices.
What that means is that your advertised Internet speeds (usually in megabits, but feel free to correct me if it’s done differently elsewhere) of 300 megabits per second is essentially about 30 megabytes per second.
Aside from the above, which may or may not be relevant here, you might be capped by the device itself, my laptop port is damaged so instead of gigabit speeds, it now runs at 100megabits.
So the lan port can be damaged if it’s advertised for gigabit speeds, if not, then the port itself is limited to 100megabits, probably to cut costs further (which is negligible anyway smh)
Also, you might be affected by number of people using your network at any given time as well, notwithstanding the way stremio fetches content (relying on peers/sees iirc)
Probably your network card or router port or both are 10/100 mbps. In that case max speed you can have is 100 mbps and that is limiting factor - uplink speed to your provider cannot be used in total.
There is small chance that it’s not up to the port(s) but to cable so it might be worth to try another.
The reason your tv is only getting 100 mb/s is because 99% of tvs have ethernet ports that are maxed out at 100 mb/s. Even on high end tvs.
If you use wifi you’ll get higher speeds, but it can be less reliable.
I’d recommend buying a USB dongle that you can connect an ethernet cable to, that will give you much higher speeds.
Also use real debrid
if you’re setup using RD, try a VPN. It might be counterintuitive, but i had all kinds of lagging issues on my 2 different TVs, trield shield tv 2019, Onn 4k pro, CCwGTV… all lagged the same on large >50gb files. I installed a VPN and it fixed it. Might be my ISP?
Without RD (which I assume you don’t use), higher quality + seeds + size play a huge part.
I recommend using RD if you’re planning to do 4K. It’s possible without it but you need to find a good link that has all the above mentioned. And TVs aren’t as good as computers so 4K is kinda difficult to get right without RD.
I get that issue on every TV app. Doesn’t matter if Chromecast, Chromecast 4k, or any of the multiple android TV’s OS I’ve tried it on at my house friends houses, or relatives.
Dunno if the CPU is too weak or if Google actively throttles it, but the result is the same, constant buffering unless you pick movies with max 2GB of total size. Anything over that and for some reason it can’t handle it.
At the same time on all of these locations it works fine on any old laptop. Must be some limitation on the TV OS apps.
Mine does 4k. I actually tried a 55gb file and it played smoothly for the 10 minute test. But sometimes even a smaller file will buffer. Maybe it has something to do with bitrate?
Heck, I even tried a 95gb file of Oppenheimer and it played but the audio was pretty bad delayed.
My RD speed test clocks in at about 82-85mbps on the single channel and 103mbps on the multi channels.
Honestly, I think I have two courses of action:
accept the current speed I have and be happy with streaming 30-40GB files smoothly. Not much difference between a 30GB and 90GB file is what I heard. Most of the file size is audio.
OR
Up my internet speed and run an Ethernet cable to a steaming box such as the ONN or Nvidia Shield Pro 2019.
I think I’ll stick with the first option for now considering I’m a cheap ass.
