Sharing mobile Open vpn with chromebook

I can’t figure this one out, so I have a oneplus 8t with open vpn which connects to my network at home, this all works fine, however I want to enable the hotspot on the phone and connect my chromebook acer spin 713 to the hotspot (which does work) but what I don’t have is access to my network at home.

Anyone more technically minded want to point me in the right direction?

Any better if you re-establish the vpn connection on the phone after activating the hotspot? This would be down to the routing table on the phone needing to having a route defined to send the traffic down the correct pipe. That might not be correctly established to achieve what you want.

Technically, I would connect a PC to the hotspot and add a route on the command line of the PC if it wasn’t working. I don’t think you can play with the routing tables in that way on ChromeOS though.

Alternatively configure the vpn on the chromebook and give that a try when connected to hotspot.

That’s the way. Android does not support sharing VPN connections.

Touch VPN is the best browser VPN. Open VPN is the best app VPN

seems to work now?!

Using open vpn app on the chromebook and connecting to the hotspot on the phone Im able to access my lan and OMV installation.

Also had to avertise the dns to clients in the router vpn settings to allow access to the general web, now have pi-hole ad blocking as a bonus.
Time to test this with an amazon tablet!
