Hey does anyone have experience doing any remote work through an iPad using software terradici or anything like that?
I’ve been thinking about picking up an iPad Pro for a while as a laptop replacement for my 8 year old mac pro, but at the same time have been considering building some sort of portable remote PC setup I could potentially use for work (Thinking like a surface Pro with small tablet)
I’m also wondering if it’s worth getting the iPad/Surface Pro that would be compatible with 5g or LTE, my friend uses that sometimes for remote work with some success.
Basically I’m looking for a portable alternative to my home PC, I don’t need high-end software to run locally but a good option for portable remote vpn work.
Teradici employee here. I recommend using a desktop OS as our mobile OS support isn’t as good. For high end VFX work, you are probably using PCoIP Ultra, which requires an Intel CPU and relatively high performance so I would avoid lower power laptop like Macbook Air. Also Wi-Fi will introduce performance issues since it’s inherently lossy, FYI.
As the Teradici guy says, latency is gonna be a bitch. Considering they’ve only just released a MacOS from beta, I’d say the mobile stuff is a way off yet. Also also, things will be potentially be taking a different route now that HP have bought out the company.
Hey you! I’ve been using Teradici since the Pandemic hit and it’s worked out great for us. I teach at a VFX school. Teradici in combination with Zoom has kept us ticking without skipping a beat. Just want to say thanks…soooo. thank you!
Random question…Are the software PCoIP options as good as the hardware based PCoIP boxes? Currently we’re using the thin client pcoip boxes…but always been curious how the software based solutions work in comparison.
I’m curious as to what happened with the next gen hardware client that was being worked on, and supposedly going to be beta by this just past summer, I’m assuming the purchase by HPI had stalled that. We are in a difficult spot with needing to purchase whatever’s next and not wanting to spend on Tera 2 zero clients. So far I’m not very impressed with peripheral hardware support on software based pcoip solutions.
Had just been thinking about getting an ipad for a while for the sketching and lidar + I never had one before. Only thing stopping me was the price seemed a little high, but if there were decent options for using it as a remote setup whil travelling it would definitely be worth it (I saw it can come with 5g now too).
Well, its technically any CPU that can support AVX 2 so AMD CPUs would also work. For H264 decoding, we are doing it in software since its in 444 mode but for Ultra CPU or Auto offload, AVX 2 is required.
Teradici has mainly been developing the software solution for the past 5 years and there are features that are only available with software solution. We’ll still support the hardware cards with bug and security fixes for the foreseeable future if you have a support plan.
