I already have a NordVPN account, is there any reason to use it on the Shield? I just ordered the Shield Pro and will mostly use it to watch .mkv movies from a portable Ssd or maybe streaming from my PC both using Kodi and watch free streaming movie sites like tubi. I don’t use Netflix at all.
Not really. If you aren’t trying to change your location for a streaming service or hide your location from youtube, … or protect your privacy from your isp or get around your country’s internet filters, there’s not much point.
I run nvidia shield pro 2019 with nordvpn, and if you run a program called vpnsafetydot. I have set it up so I have a floating green ball in the top right hand corner. So I know my vpn is on.
You can have green ball or thumbs up for vpn working or red ball or thumbs down for vpn not working.
VPN on all the time 24 7 for all devices no issues at all. 3 years strong. Kodi works flawless, split tunnel is good for streaming apps that block vpn. My ISP blocked a unprotected device from traffic years back, I got a shield as a new box and bought nord for this specific reason. Like I said 3 years or almost with no issues.
Pleasure it’s just nice to know your vpn is working at all times. It has saved me on numerous occasions.
Take care
I always use a VPN. I dont want to get throttled or else
Sounds like it’s worth trying, anyone have any setting tweaks for Nord with Shield?
If you in UK and watch sport it’s a must in my opinion. I use surfshark with my Z10 all the time
I tried nord on my shield. And many of the streaming apps didn’t like it. Wouldn’t let me play content. Disney actually halted that device for 3 days. F them.
Keeping my ISP out of my business is always something I prefer but what about apps like Kodi, any issue there?
Nice, definitely will check it out
Good info, thanks
I use Nord with my Shield primarily for Netflix so it thinks I’m in the US. Can’t say I have any tweaks other than auto-starting and split-tunelling for other apps I don’t want it to be used for. Haven’t had any major issues with it. The only issue I had was with Netflix itself. I had to force stop it and clear the cache for it to work properly after the VPN is turned on.
In US, not watching much sports
Hiya, random question but do you know if it works with the NHL app by chance? Or how does it work in general? Is it through a Web browser or a dedicated app?
I can watch games on my pc but the quality is so much better on the shield. Not too mention more comfortable.
Cheers
No, the apps connect to the local network and don’t go through your ISP to begin with.
I use NordVPN for kodi. It works well.
Thanks, I turned it on today and so far so good
Yes but does the app log your activity back to their servers?
If I’m not mistaken, I think they delete every 24 or 36 hours. No logs kept.
