Nokia G21 - no updates for 4 months

I have a problem very simmilar to others here as ive read. My Nokia G21 is stuck on the 4 months old March 23 security patch and i still cannot get any newer patches including the Android 13 upgrade which, according to their website, i should have already got. When i reached the support, they just told me “we are looking forward to new updates as much as you do!” and then “unfortunately this happens” and then ended the chat.

Im seriously upset because i bought this phone mainly cuz of these software updates promise, now im frustrated. Wtf should i do when they do not show any interest in helping me? Is there any serious chance how can i force them to somehow help me?

EDIT: I bypassed the region restriction and was able to get the newest update! Try doing the steps written here:
How to: Haven’t got update, try this! | Nokiamob](How to: Haven’t got update, try this! | Nokiamob and make sure you also follow these steps i found out:

  1. make sure your location is turned off (its obvious but i firstly forgot about it)
  2. Delete the cache and storage from these following apps too: Carrier Services, Fused Location, Google Services Framework, Google Play Store and Carrier Location.
  3. Delete the Google Play Services storage several times, for some reason it makes the data again right after you delete it.
  4. Make sure you set the Freedome VPN to permanent, block any internet connection without VPN services in settings.

Certainly do not rely on Nokia support, i have never encountered more amateur people. Bro kept telling me that they do not have any system or list in releasing updates, pff. You have to rely on yourself. I hope it works for you guys too!

U can try VPN method to update your phone: https://nokiamob.net/2022/11/12/how-to-havent-got-update-try-this/

I read the title and immediately thought, I didn’t even know it was ill

Thanks so much for this. It worked for me. I finally got my Nokia G21 to update to Android 13. I bought it previously owned in February this year and it was so frustrating to be stuck on Android 12 and a March 2023 SP.

I wish people would stop buying Nokia phones, one of the reasons why the phones are so horrible and barebones is not only is the hardware made by an OEM so is the software. Nokia is only a name and doesn’t exist. They don’t even do good customer care.

The era of good stock Android phones ended with the Nexus series. Buy a Samsung or nothing phone or adjust with an iPhone.

Well I have the G20 and in the last month I’ve had OS and security updates  seems odd they’d do mine first and not the newer G21

Situation normal as a Nokia 7.1 phone previously received security updates 3 months after their release date, by which time the updates were obsolete. How about you send a message to Nokia on social media and see what happens? The chat functionality is garbage.

They are having regulation issues with G21 I belive, my $50 Nokia C12 is a lot more up to date than G21.

Even though i tried it before (unsuccesfully), i decided to give it a one more try because that you send it and THANKS!! With some tweaks it worked!!! Now im upgrading to Android 13!

I feel you, i was frustrated the same. Glad it helped! I hope you wont have to do all of this for every single further update though :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I bought this because of the stock Android and if i had the money i would rather buy a Google Pixel, because in terms of software its amazing. Unfortunately, I dont have that big budget for a Pixel. However somewhere i have an old Redmi Note 8 so after i research more about installing custom ROMs, i will put Pixel Experience ROM there and switch to it. Im surely never trying Nokia again.

I bought Nokias because I wanted to experience stock android for the first time, but after using Nokia G20 (poor processor) and X10 (could do better with refresh rate), I’m ready to try out Poco, RealMe and Xiaomi phones. Even though their OS comes with bloat ware apps (they could be uninstalled with adb), their general OS experience is smooth, comes with better screens and high refresh rates, better processors etc.

Nokias on the other hand seem to offer much less for the same price as these other china phones. Stock android used to save Nokia, but I think in the long term, it won’t anymore, since people will become aware of these other mid range budget friendly alternatives. Lately RealMe 10 pro and Poco F5 really catched my eyes.

Iphones are made by an OEM as well though. :-\

Hell I just got a security patch for June on a Nokia 8.3 5G … This is an old phone. Something tells me HMD people probably still use the 8.3 because it’s the last “close” to flagship phone that they ever released.

Im more than sure that if i message them there, they wont even respond and if they somehow will, theyre just gonna redirect me back to their support. Basically the thing that drives me crazy is that i do not get something i was promised to get and i cant do shit about it.

Fingers crossed! After upgrading to Android 13 I thought I would automatically get the latest SP, but no. It was sent out month by month till I got to the June 2024 security patch. I was too excited to mind though! Thank you once again.

Every phone is built by an OEM. But using OEM software is unacceptable.

Quite possibly yes. I was looking at upgrading to a newer model towards the end of the year but I’ve seen nothing so far yet that slightly interests me. Sometimes miss my 6.1 2018 model :frowning:
