May I use VPN apps on PC through the WSA?

Has anyone tried this? I am still using Windows10. If this do works, I will update to Windows11. Tell me plz.

I have not tried that, but I am 95% sure it would not work. WSA is just that: A subsystem. It’s underneath Windows, in a container. Most things in WSA or WS for Linux are separated from Windows.

I’m no expert, however I do have some knowledge of how Windows and WSA interact

Probably not going to work, unless if your VPN supports Hyper-V.

Now the question I have. Why use the VPN only within Android, why not use it directly on Windows itself?

why do you want to do this?

I have tried and failed with cloud flare warp. I have since used the desktop app which works perfectly fine with WSA. If you really need the VPN to only work inside android, use BlueStacks.

Probably not. Chances are it’s just going to enable the VPN connection for WSA and not the entirety of Windows since most VMs will tunnel the host system using a virtual LAN connection. At the end of the day, WSA is basically just an Android VM.

I tried it with a VM in the past and that was the result I got. The VM showed it was connected to the VPN while the host showed it wasn’t.

If you can get it to install and run correctly, your “free” Android VPN might work for other WSA apps, but it will not be visible to Windows.

FWIW, I personally steer clear of “free” VPN software, unless it is being provided by companies with unimpeachable credibility (like perhaps the new Microsoft/Cloudflare VPN being built into Edge, which, while limited, could be useful in specific scenarios). After all, what’s the point of preventing your ISP from tracking you if your VPN provider is hoovering all your data and doing worse with it than sending you targeted ads?

It can be done. Though there’s quite a lot of troubles. After you set up your VPN in WSA(this video will show you how https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPw66OAe2gg), you’ll download or sideload a proxy app, for example"Every proxy" or "Proxy server " that you can find in google play store. Then you can proxy your windows through WSA, just like how you can proxy your computer through your smartphone, which if you don’t konw how, you may follow these steps: 1) open the proxy app and activate the proxy(during which you’ll set a port number), the look for the wifiIP or hostIP which it’ll show somewhere. 2) open your windows settings and navigate to proxy and set up manual proxy. Fill the proxy ip adress with the wifiIp and the port with the port number you set up.

Well…thanks for tell me these.

uhhh…To be honest, I have a free VPN on Android and it’s speed’s nice. At least faster than any FREE VPN on PC that I found. So I wonder if I can run it on PC( best without a third party simulator).

Thanks for raising my awareness on these things.

Sorry if it wasn’t the answer you wanted to hear, but you could always make a backup, switch to Windows 11, check if it works, and if it doesn’t you could go back? Idk

Unrelated to your question, I wouldn’t recommend using any free VPNs since they typically make money off your data which leaves a huge vulnerability to your security and privacy. You’d be better off using no VPN rather than a free VPN.

If you want to use VPN in WSA but using Windows App that’s not going to work. It only change the IP in WSA but not entire PC.

free VPNs are a scam
