LPT: It is possible to book rooms cheaper with a VPN

You can save a lot of money while booking hotels with a VPN. It is a lifesaver for people who travels a lot and use Booking.com for their hotels and rooms.

My job requires me to travel a lot, so Booking is one of my friends. When you have to go to different countries several times a month, hotels cost a lot of money. One day I accidentally found out that I can find the same hotels or rooms at cheaper prices while my VPN is on. I will give you an example of one of the recent hotels I found cheaper using a VPN.

  • Roxy Hotel New York on the United States server cost $349
  • Roxy Hotel New York on the United Kingdom server cost £377
  • Roxy Hotel New York on the Germany server cost €434

This hotel is for one adult, and with the same check-in/check-out date. In this case, United States residents pay the lowest price. €434=$446.31, and £377= $447.66I’m using NordVPN for this, but I think any VPN you have will work. If you wanna try it by yourself just don’t forget before changing servers, clear your history, and fully quit the browser (I was using Safari). Sometimes because of cookies, you can’t see different prices even if the location is changed. And if you want to try booking a hotel the easiest way to pay is to exchange currency on the Revolut app and pay with a virtual Revolut card. If you don’t have a VPN I saw someone recommend checking out some kind of comparison table.

This one, I was choosing between a few providers but decided to try out Nord for this.

This works especially good with air fare. Didn’t think it would be there case for hotels too

I’ve used that trick to buy plane tickets for a long time, still works! I’ve found best prices if I set my vpn to a poorer country

Works for YouTube premium too. Just buy your subscription via India or Malaysia for a lot less.

This is really interesting. Is it always cheaper to book from the same country as the hotel or do you do a few attempts with different VPN locations?

I tired this and it didn’t work and to test my theory I had friends in the countries I will be visiting to log into the hotel sites and they came up with the same prices I was seeing from the US. I also tried this for airfare. I think hotels and airlines have caught on to this hack.

Hello, I have a question about using VPN for flights and hotel reservations.

If I use the VPN to look for a cheap flight or hotel, to buy do I have to log in to my account, for example, booking? Or do I have to do it as a guest?

Or do I have to create an account at the time of purchase?

That’s my doubt because years ago I used it to buy games but I haven’t used it yet for flights or hotels.

This is technically unethical since you are circumventing the company’s regional price controls. I don’t care about companies at all and often do stuff like this, but in terms of the rules for this sub…

Isn’t it cheaper/safer to use the hotel’s website?

The last thing I want to arrive to a hotel justo to discover that the third party website I used for the booking fucked up and I’ll most probably have to pay more or maybe worse, adrift looking for a place to stay.

didn’t work with united airlines but for hotels I can verify this works like a charm.

What website do you use to book the tickets?

But you need a credit card from those countries, right? It’s not just pretending to be there.

I disagree that this is even in an ethical gray area. Totally fine to play their game.

Unless they disclose that there is regional pricing and tell you need to be physically on the region of your IP, there is nothing unethical because you’re not even circumventing the terms of service.

It might be circumventing the TOS, but I don’t think that’s unethical. Being ethical doesn’t mean following every rule corporations make.

I’ve learned that no matter how sketchy they seem, it’s probably legit lol.

Source: been staying at a hotel for 2-3weeks using a different 3rd party/travel agency just about every day and it’s less than half of booking in person at the front desk. $170 room for $62-80

All the major ones it used to work with, orbitz, Priceline, kayak, also on the specific airline websites as well.

Honestly the last time I tried this was probably in 2018 or so so it’s been a while, not sure if it’s been patched, but if not, def do that!

A bit late to the thread but if you have paypal you can use their debit card. My bank doesnt support international charges so thats what I had to do. Currently what worked for me is Ukraine for around $2 a month

Nope. Working for me for years.
