Is TikTok banned on Purdue WiFi?

Is it me or is anyone when they try to get on TikTok while connected to PAL 3.0 they get a message saying “No Internet Connection. Try again”? I think given what’s been going on in the news with the potential TikTok ban I would not be surprised if iTAP has already banned it.

Anyone else having this issue?

Edit: I’m using PAL 3.0 in my dorm room

Talked to an ITAP peep and he said that it was because it was “Recreational” it was blocked along with Twitter and other stuff… and that we should check eduroam (attwifi also works). Although the “twitter and other stuff” part is strange because I can access twitter and a lot of social media no problem.

EDIT: Eduroam does not work for Tiktok, only attwifi as far as I checked

I think you can use a VPN to get around it. But be careful with using free vpns cause they often store your data.

Are we still in high school to feel this type of control with the apps we use?
This is not right.

Wifi in academic buildings has blocked entertainment for a long time. I remember my freshman year people would watch Netflix in class until one day it just stopped working along with social media

Never had a problem in the dorms though, still using PAL

They also blocked streaming and online shopping services in academic buildings iirc

i think i saw on another post that they did :frowning:

I am having the same issue! Wild.

we’re not 3rd graders in need of supervision. I thought is was just the bad connection I always had at Pao but now it’s gotten to the point where they should have had enough time to fix it. Ridiculous that a School is restricting information on their grounds. Seems a bit counterintuitive

Honestly I’ll prob start paying more attention in class lol

Pro tip, Cloudflare’s DNS override (also known as WARP) can apparently bypass most nonsensical iTAP blocks.

I’m not mad

Do Facebook next since it steals our data too

Better to be safe than to risk another data breach like what happened last summer, I’d say.

THAT’S why I couldn’t watch netflix, hulu, or disney+ last night in ford lmao

1.1.1.1 by Cloudfare is a free VPN you can use to protect your privacy. We’re adults and we’re paying to be here.

God, the irony of Mitch Daniels running Purdue wifi network like a nanny state.

You could just use your cellular data instead.

It’s not just tiktok, it’s many streaming websites like netflix, etc. Also not a recent change (it existed when I first transferred here 2 yrs ago) Probably to reduce traffic since streaming services require more data usage.

This is really unfair. We don’t leave our families and friends and pay a lot of money just so we can’t have control on what we cannot or can see.

It just feels like hs all over again.

You shouldn’t use TikTok anyways.
