Is ProtonVPN firefox extension safe to use in Firefox?

I saw that ProtonVPN now has an extension in Firefox Addon store. As FirefoxVPN is not available in my country, I would like to use ProtonVPN.

Does anyone use this VPN? Is this safe? I see that the browser extension does not require “access to all your data”.

Does this mean in theory that If I access a site that has HTTPS the VPN provider will only be able to see what site I am connecting to but not what information I type in the site or what data I receive or upload to the website?

I use Windscribe VPN… 10GB a month free and they offer paid membership. It’s safe.

I’ve been using Proton VPN for a while on desktop and mobile without any issue. However, I haven’t tried the Firefox extension.

Afaik, it’s considered trustworthy and has a good rep. Their free version works pretty well, but I decided to upgrade to their paid version which has a lot more options.

Proton VPN is indeed safe and a well known VPN. They also have proton mail, a completely anonymous email client. I believe proton VPN is one of the few vpns to offer a few servers permanently free with unlimited bandwidth. The company is also one of the few vpn company’s to pass an audit proving they don’t log user activity.

Why does Windscribe VPN Firefox add-on requests so many permissions?
ProtonVPN does not require access to all your data.

Why is there such a difference?

The addon needs to control all traffic across the web in FF to protect you in the browser. The app does it at OS level

Google it, they are reputable and Canadian, EH! Where’s my beer?

Don’t know, I have the desktop app with 60GB a month for free. I have the addon but it’s disabled and never use it. Search it and see what the web says about it’s trustworthiness.

proton do need the same permission to access your data for all websites

I think you misunderstood the question. ProtonVPN si also a VPN add-on that does the same thing as the Windscribe VPN add-on. Yet ProtonVPN does not require all the permissions that Windscribe VPN does.
Here are links to the two add-ons:

The extra important permissions that Windscribe VPN needs are:
Access browser activity during navigation
Store unlimited amount of client-side data
