Hey all. I recently became a member to MAM to get some free books.
My torrents download perfectly when I am not using a VPN. I obviously really want to use one.
I got ExpressVPN, and none of my torrents will download. They all stall. When it’s off, they work fine.
So after some research, I got AirVPN. It is SO confusing and I can’t seem to get it to work either.
Massive waste of my time and money today. Can someone please EXPLAIN LIKE IM 5, how to use a VPN but also allow my torrents to work.

I’ve only ever used a vpn with qbit in a docker container, specifically hotio’s image. The documentation is fairly straightforward, just scroll to the bottom and add the VPN stuff once you confirm it’s working without it.
This deployment keeps it nice and separate from everything else so you don’t have to worry about turning the VPN on or off on the rest of the computer. I avoided adding a VPN for ages and this made it super easy imo

MAM tells you to report your VPN to them.
Do public torrents work?
Have you told MAM what your VPN’s IP address is?
If you’re downloading them right from your computer you can use the Eddie software that AirVPN gives you. I have it on Windows and it’s easy. Just install it from AirVPNs website, log in and connect. Once that’s done you’re on vpn and the qbittorrent would be as well. You’ll have to keep this running anytime you use qbittorrent. Also be sure to contact MaM support and tell them you’re using AirVPN otherwise you can get banned.
Another much more complicated setup is using docker and making vpn and qbittorrent webui run through that. You can set it so it’s tunnel vpn with wire guard and make qbittorrent only run when your vpn container is “healthy” this way qbittorrent stops when vpn is down for whatever reason.

Yes. I was using a free one at the time, they didn’t say too much. But turns out torrents don’t with with it either.

Are you trying to only connect to MaM torrents or other trackers as well? You might try somewhere that’s not MaM and see if it’s just your connection to MaM that’s the issue. I know for me it was a total biatch to setup a proper VPN to MaM.
