For those that are using VPN's and League Pass - suggestions on specific VPN

After seeing my options for Blazer games, it looks like VPN+League Pass will be the best option. I’m new to the VPN game though. Originally I was going to try Evoca, but it is really $30/month instead of the advertised $25 and you need an antennae to get the local channels which is dumb.

Any suggestions on VPN’s - if this needs to be on the DL maybe PM me

Also, does it matter which location you choose? Does that affect your stream at all picking somewhere else in the states vs a different country?

Express VPN is my go to and yes the location chosen does matter. Also would like to suggest a chrome cast that supports the play store and apps without the use of mirroring. A TV running google tv also works as Express vpn can be downloaded and run on it natively

We got a Sony a80j Oled and it’s revolutionized how I watch sports. I just turn on the TV open the vpn application turn on the VPN then go to whichever sports app I want to watch. Never having to use my phone, or computer and running everything with one remote is truly awesome.

I’ve been using NordVPN for the last year or so, and it seems to work well for the most part, however I have had a bit of trouble lately with the BBC iPlayer. Even when the VPN is on, the site sometimes knows that I’m not in the UK. Stakes are low there, but would hate to invest in a year sub for League Pass and then get locked out.

I ended up signing up for Evoca (at least temporarily), as their website claims there is a DVR for sports. It also comes with an antenna, though doesn’t seem to be a high quality antenna. I’m in the inner metro though, so I think it will be sufficient. I also still pay for Youtube TV because my folks use my account and don’t like change, so I will get the TNT and ESPN games as well as the Root games.

Honestly don’t think any of our options are great this season, so figure out what works best for your situation and your budget. May not be what works best for the next person.

Hopefully Hankins and co understand that the current options leave much to be desired and continue working towards something better.

I tried this last year. I played with a ton of VPNS and I can tell you that you’ll want a very premium, high speed VPN and country that can support it. India and most of Asia was slow as hell for me on NordVPN. My feed was always choppy and low quality. In the end, I just payed the extra cash for US league pass, instead of cheap India version and VPN from closest out of market state.

PIA or Mullvad. Used both and have been happy with them.

If you’re using iOS, after you close the NBA app, I would keep location sharing off and make the device prompt you each time, and also make sure ‘precise location’ is not checked. Then select Mexico or a location that doesn’t trip the blackout trigger.

i been using torguard. got 50% off with the coupon code: lifetime

Other than the chrome cast mentioned in another comment, what kind of devices are people using? I think LP+VPN is the way I’m going this year but I’m a total novice.

I’ve got an LG smart TV, ps5, roku, etc…

I use PIA (Private internet access) but you can just stream it

Really makes me appreciate being out of state. Team Pass @ $60/year feels like a steal

I use express VPN. I live in Mongolia but travel frequently. It has worked fine for 4 seasons - set to Mongolia whenever I travel.

think im just gonna give fubo a try. i usually pirate or do league pass + vpn but then im always forced to watch from my computer instead of my nice tv. i heard about evoca but it sounds annoying tbh. i’ll just cancel fubotv once the season is over.

If you’re gonna VPN, VPN into India when you sign up for your League Pass account, it only ends up costing like $14 USD to buy League Pass in India because of the cost of living over there. Ends up making your total investment much cheaper.

Every time you go to watch a game after that, you’ll need to connect your VPN to India first. Once the game starts, you can disconnect.

Or if not India buying it from Turkey or Greece is cheap to only costs like 17 USD for league pass. I used to buy from India but then NordVPN which I use doesn’t have a server there Anymore so opted buying a subscription from Greece or Turkey. With this it’s still cheap and I don’t have to constantly connect my VPN to India to watch

Just another option for you

@hells_poet how did you make a payment for NBA pass Turkey of Greece. My credit card has USA address.

Trying to watch through the browser with Express. Getting an out of country error when I choose either India option:
India (via UK)
India (via Singapore)

I don’t recall if the via part was there last year. Did anyone get it to work using these?

Seems league pass india subscription now working even without connecting to vpn. Not sure if it’s just because it’s preseason.

Doesn’t work on mobile unfortunately

On phone its impossible as the app asks for location services to be enabled.
On android tv, it doesn’t work if you have vpn on.
I bought from canada, last year it used to work for blackout games if i connected to mexico using nord vpn, this year i get an error

Thanks! I’ve been checking out Express and I’m thinking of going with that and just picking a Midwest or East Coast US location
