Eero charging $100 to keep app functions?

Anyone else mad about eero getting rid of basic ad blocking app & adding $100 fee for a antivirus(that’s available for free), cheap Virus & VPN a year??? If you don’t pay the fee, your eero App will have limited functions.

I might have to buy a different home WiFi system. Not happy about paying $100 to use “my” purchased router!

They offered me 30% credit if I keep the service. Or else I loose most of the App functionality of my eero router.

I spent over $500 to add eero home WiFi to my home. Amazon owns the company. Why are they ripping people off to use their product???

Anyone know why this is happening???

I never liked that Eero Secure never actually TELLS you DETAILS about WHAT is blocked nor WHY, so that we can stop whatever it was from recurring.

that is not new. what are you talking about? you should know this before you buy the system

Let the subscription expire, sign back up using the code SECURE50 for 50% off

You don’t lose any functionality by not paying, it’s still fully-featured. you just don’t get the ad blocking and vpn and password manager add-ons. I’m not sure what the problem is here, it’s all very transparent.

Best thing to do with an eero network is put it in bridge mode. Get a real firewall something like the Firewalla and put the eeros in bridge mode. All other functions they offer are pretty much useless and a waste of money.

I don’t mind paying for Eero Plus mainly because it pays for my 1Password for Families and Guardian VPN. Since I’d be paying for those things separately if they weren’t bundled, it’s easier for me to justify the extra money I’m spending on Plus for the parental control features.

Which app functions?

I could pay for Eero Plus but its way overpriced.

I still have all the functions and just use nextdns for an Adblock.

I still have profiles, downtime, etc.

Would someone please explain the advantages/disadvantages of bridge mode? Would love a firewall, so I’d need to research how to do that and if it would negatively affect performance. I have been very happy with T Mobile 5g(tower is less than 1/4 mile direct line of sight to my house), consistently getting 700-900 MPS to modem. Using two Pro 6s, 36 clients getting between 200-600.

I remember when everything free , and then they started charging. Which pushed me onto something else that is better with no monthly charges …

Just got hit with this subscription charge. Wtf.

I’ve been trying the 90 day trial of the eero secure. What I like is that it blocks actual apps on the phone and computer. Every other router that provides free parental controls can’t block actual apps on phone. For $100 a year I don’t thinks it’s a horrible investment.
What I don’t like is that you can’t control your own DNS settings. I like to use either Google dns or open dns.

Just run pihole. Superior ad blocking and free, and works great with eero (just change the DNS provided by DHCP to the pihole).

I run Pihole on a NUC inside of my network. It’s faster and no monthly fee.

Buy a Firewalla, discontinue Eero Secure and put them into bridge mode. You’ll have better security features and with no monthly fee. It’s not cheap, but so is replacing all my eeros.

The matrix data they supply is useless. Just like the ad blocking feature.

I do not like being charged for software I don’t utilize. $29 for ad block was fine, but not switching to a mandatory $100 fee to keep app functionally.

I purchased the eero system when it first came with free ad block, then they started to charge $29. Now they are charging $100 a year to keep app functions for the router available. I’ve had eero since it came out & this is the first year they discontinued the basic plan & increased price to $100. The software offering are useless to me. I don’t need a free public domain antivirus and low value password manager & VPN.

But does it work when you try to signup again with the same email id?

That technically is losing features when you have to pay for the additional stuff that you get free on other brands.
