I just got T-Mobile 5G home Internet service. When I run a speed test on it, I’m getting over 200 Mbps download speed. However, when I connect via Nord VPN, I get between 10-20 Mbps download speed. Is this reduction normal with all VPNs? I noticed a slight reduction when I was on Verizon 4G home Internet, but nothing this drastic.
Also NORD does not support IPv6 at least that is what they told me when they refunded my money because it was really slow.
Might just be an issue with Nord. I use speedify and get speeds between 100 - 200 Mbps when connected. 500 - 900 Mbps when not connected to a vpn
I use Nord almost daily and have not had any issues when I do, nor notice any bad dips or lags because I sometimes forget i have it activated. I wouldn’t know by speed that there was any difference.
Definitely a Nord issue. I run warp and windscribe. I would get maybe 250-300 vs my usual 300-350.
Not all VPN, I get over 200 Mbps with Google VPN or Proton
It depends on the VPN server and also most of the cheap VPNs are slow. U would need a dedicated VPN to achieve decent speeds, but yea VPN can slow down ur connection drastically
Rural area, 10+ miles from the tower, about 60Mbps here, 130 next to the tower. Nord cuts to 15Mbps. Proton, free version, does ~30-50 (depending on how it’s working, but I do see that). If I get time someday I may test some others.
Edit, forgot to add. Nord also didn’t slow Verizon down noticeably for me either, but it maxes at about 15Mbps on postpaid without VPN (only band 13).
I use pure VPN and still get 80% of my normal speed. Try different server sometimes if I do see slowing I will change servers and reconnect with better speed.
It’s the gateway. Had these same issues with nord they all go away when you buy your own gateway. None of the fixes work it’s not because of IPV6 it’s the gosh darned box.
Nord is fast as hell. Change the server
Thanks for the info, everyone.
Windscribe VPN is faster than my nordVPN for sure. Much will depend on if your VPN can use the wireguard protocol. TCP, UDP are not as fast as wireguard.
What gateway are you using?
The newest, white G4AR.
Interesting as I have the same issues as the OP and we have the same box. Starting to think it’s hardware related. Thanks.
