I’m just curious if anyone here has seen webroot ever fix anything or remove a clear problem from a computer.
I’ve installed hundreds of times and seen hundreds of computers with it, and nothing has ever happened.

I mean, webroot is fine, but honestly I think the days of paid consumer AV software are over. MacOS and Windows both have perfectly suitable built in security foe 99% of people.
I’ve witnessed webroot remove infections, malware and Trojans.
Only good thing is probably the web scanner for the old geezers that click on everything. For the average person paid AV is a thing of the past.
It does very well and definitely helps those users who try and click any links that are obviously sus
We’ve ran it on machines the customers brought in for a virus clean up, I once saw it detect over 20,000 items. Edit spelling
If you’re asking if it actually looks for and removes malware, then yes it does.
The “problem” is, as other people have mentioned, the massive improvements in security programs built into OS’s nowadays. Back in the day, Webroot was an awesome lightweight malware tool; but nowadays Windows Defender can address most of the issues before Webroot gets the chance.
And there are still plenty of suspects in my precinct every week where Webroot manages to snag a piece of malware or 2 that windows missed. Definitely has a place in your toolbox still, even if it’s not as useful as it used to be.
it’s lightweight. decent for low end devices.
For a lot of the newer/younger agents, just keep in mind that these tools we use on the toolbox used to work a lot better back in the day on older OS’s. McAfee, webroot, trend micro and even Norton power eraser used to all be very effective on windows xp thru 8.1. Windows 10 and now definitely 11 their built in defenses are so good now that they mostly make any added protection just useless.
In the field, I still see viruses from time to time on windows 10 and 11 computers, but honestly that’s basically because the clients are practically asking to be infected with how they use them (error code: 1D10T)
Its a placebo Windows defender definitely is good enough. Majority of times I feel like is just educating people about remote scams and asking to add blocker to mitigate adware scams that lead to remote sessions
If Webroot or MRI for that matter catches anything I usually take it as a “oh this computer must have a lot of malware.” So I run Malwarebytes and it always finds a lot more.
Yes, in MRI I’ve seen both Webroot and Trend locate and remove infections. Now I’ve yet to see the McAfee Rootkit Removal tool find anything.
Seems to work. Best part is it doesn’t seem to slow the machines down at all.
On this topic of Webroot,
This is a long shot as this post is already 10mo old.
If I remove Webroot from a company computer, what would the repercussions be?
It always pops up asking me to renew it. Honestly, I’m not sure I ever ordered it to begin with, but anyway, is there any way I can remove that from popping up every time I boot on my laptop?
Me, neither. And if you ever call with a problem,no one will EVER call you back. If they try on the live phone call, that will be all the help you get. I renewed but don’t think I will do so next time.
Webroot must be getting desparate. They just charged my CC last month $53.36 for a renewal i had cancelled 6 yrs ago. And no way to cancell from their website. Tried sending a message from the email the CC company gave me but no responce yet. Tomorrow I’ll try to call them with some of the different numbers they have listed.
The Webroot my company uses has been scannin on my mac (M1 Max 16" 2021) for more than 100h, and its not the first time it takes so long.
It never completed a full scan and has been trying for the past month, week by week, but when i get to the weekend i just terminate the scan and turn off my mac.
Anyone had similar issues?
I just tell people AV is like extra lock on your door, they go thru the window.
Windows defender and apple os. Has more money invested than any AV.
Hackers not hackers now days too much work, most people are just scammers. With barely any computer knowledge. That play on peoples fear.
