That is correct. The first time you paid for a discounted price, after that period the renewal will charge you full price for that plan. This is all state clearly when you subscribe and in their TOS.
To avoid this, buy new discounted plans 1 month before it ends and it will add to the active remaining days, and disable auto renewal to avoid the full price charge in case you forget.

This happened to me as well. I paid $78.99 for 2 years and a couple months I think two years ago. It auto renewed at double the price for ONLY 1 YEAR. I contacted them and got refunded and gave me a better price than the best offer I found around.
What happened to me was I paid 205.23 SG Dollar (approx 160$) for 1 year. I asked for a refund. They refunded but then charged me again so my card reflects 320$ charge and only refunded 160$. I dunno why they are like this.
I’ve been paying 90 bucks for the last 5 years. Discounted price the first year. All for standard plan (which appears to offer the same if not less than the current basic plan) and they just hit me with a 200 dollar charge for this next year I had them reverse. When I canceled they offered 18 months free of charge as long as I don’t reverse the charge (specifying my new renew month will be march 2026) which is just wrong as then it’s 6 months free of charge. Right now you can get the best plan for like 147 for 2 years. They also renewed on a card that had expired dinging my new card despite me not updating the expiration date which sketches me out
