I see a lot of adverts for VPN’s but most of them are not free and after reading some reviews it seems that they are not worth the money anyways. I still want some online privacy though so I would like to benefit from using a VPN - can someone tell me of a free vpn that’s actually good and conceals your privacy at the same level as a paid VPN? Don’t want to use tunnelbear, i know people recommend that one quite a bit.
No free VPN is ever going to protect your privacy at the same level as a paid VPN. Not all paid VPN’s are worth it this is true, but some (such as surfshark) are totally worth it and dirt cheap, they might as well be free at this point. I’d rather not use a VPN at all than use a free one like tunnelbear and have all my data sold lol.
I guess protonVPN and Tor are somewhat usable but I will add on to what others have said and strongly advise you to not use a free VPN because in that case, you will be the product. Why do you need it to be free anyways? A decent VPN only costs like $2 per month. Stop being cheap.
So, basically it seems like everyone has already told you why this is a bad idea and why you should avoid giving up your personal data to those companies. The only VPN’s I recommend you check out are surfshark and pure - everything else pretty much sucks. Especially NordVPN and express VPN, those ones are truly horrendous.
Is this a joke? No free VPN will provide any privacy whatsoever, lol. Like someone else said you are better off just using no VPN, that way you can still be tracked but at least you’re not giving your personal data away to some shitty company that offers ‘free’ vpn services.
Big risk when using a free vpn so not something most people would recommend. Use one of the major ones that are frequently talked about cause they’re cheap (or just use Mullvad which many consider the best).
Using one that is free kind of defeats the purpose but if it is something you insist on doing, then consider Tor and Wireguard. Tor is probably best even though it’s slow as hell and the IP addresses have been abused to death (meaning you’ll be blacklisted on many sites) but at least Tor doesn’t steal and store your data AFAIK.
Opera is not a VPN, it’s a proxy and only covers your browser. Riseup doesn’t allow torrenting I believe. Most of all the other ones only have free trials. Windscribe is the only one with a free option but only 10Gb a month with your email address.
Paid Mullvad, AirVPN and Windscribe are the only ones that protect your privacy and work really well with torrenting.
This is like asking about free hosting. If it’s free, it most likely sucks BAD. Pay up the few bucks per month required to get a good VPN. hell even nord VPN is 100x better than any free VPN, and everyone knows Nord VPN sucks.
Tunnelbear is the one that gets mentioned a lot but it is quite terrible in my experience. Only one that i would say is half decent is Tor, but even tor has most of its IP’s blacklisted at this point so it’s a challenge to even browse with it.
wireguard, hotspot shield basic, protonVPN, tunnelbear, atlas VPN… These are just a few working ‘free’ VPN’s. Be careful though and inform yourself on the risks of using a free VPN before you sign up to any of them. There are quite a few risks involved.
VPN’s are cheap enough nowadays that this question should be banned. Who doesn’t have $2 per month to get full privacy? You either are dead broke (in which case you have bigger problems than internet privacy) or you don’t value your internet privacy at all and are willing to give it all up to random corporations on the other side of the world for practically nothing in return.
Best and free rarely ever go together… Especially when it comes to something as serious as internet privacy. There is not a single free VPN i would ever use; I would rather just rawdog it with my own IP address. If VPN’s were priced at like $20 per month or more I’d understand but at the few bucks they’re charging, you’d be ridiculous to not get a paid subscription.
I haven’t used a free VPN in ages. I remember using tunnelbear years ago for about an hour and all i remember is that it was an absolutely awful experience. I couldn’t even Google anything without their system constantly asking me to verify that I’m not a bot. I definitely don’t recommend it.
they are all pretty terrible but the least awful one is proton VPN. When you do upgrade to a paid VPN you’ll see why it’s so worth it.
No free VPN is good. Free VPNs never secured the data of a user even they can leak someone’s data. So never trust on a free VPN always try to use paid VPN.
vpns yous to be free i dont get it now. if its for doing dodgy stuff why would you pay to have a programme thats legal, wouldnt it still show if authorities needed to see it ?
Check out the thread about torrenting VPN’s. I saw some decent suggestions there.
In the tech space there’s two things you should NEVER get for free: VPN’s and web hosting. Well, there’s more than two but those two stand out the most because you’ll end up getting screwed over the most with those.
yep as its been said here, I’d rather use a public wifi spot and have everyone see what I’m doing on the internet rather than use a free vpn. They are just completely garbage, there’s no reason to risk it.
