Working from home

Hi everyone, I work for a Uk bank and we use pulse secure to login. I can use my mobile phone to also tether to the laptop for wifi.
My question is - I have downloaded a VPN on my mobile phone, I’m planning on going to asia, possibly Thailand and remote working without letting anyone know. if i tether my phone using a VPN to show my IP address in the UK, would pulse secure pick up that I was in Thailand and block me?

Thanks In advance!

Tether your phone with VPN on and check your public IP address on the computer before connecting the VPN. Pulse will see your public IP address in the logs.

Hi there. It’s been a long time but can you please tell me if it worked? I’m in the same situation like you. Thanks

Hi, I can’t access WiFi without using pulse secure on the work laptop.
When I check my IP after using pulse secure it shows up as a London isp and isp is registered as the banks name.

I tethered my phone to the laptop using mobile data and tried Uk/American/Canadian vpn. Seems to be fine.

So based on this, as long as I change my vpn location to Uk, any additional data in the pulse secure log will show as Uk and already automatically switches to Uk on vpn?

Is that right?

I tried on my personal computer and tethering mobile data was fine, I used Canada vpn server and my ip was Toronto etc.

Thanks !!

In theory yes. In the Pulse logs it will show client public ip address and the user who tried to connect from said IP address. With enough investigation they might be able to figure out you’re using a VPN on your phone. For example if someone did a lookup for the public IP address you would be using it might show as owned or used by the phone VPN software vendor. This probably wouldn’t happen just because who would have time to check every user public IP address. They could also have client side logging enabled but even with that I don’t see how they would be able to tell with certainty in those logs that you are using a VPN on your cell phone. I’m assuming since you work for a bank they have 2-factor authentication setup. If the 2nd factor uses your phone they might have some type of MDM installed which could show any apps installed on your phone.

Thanks a lot! Your way more knowledgeable than me on this, the vpn seems like my safe bet. They won’t have time to check the logs. They have about 30,000 staff at home. Using a vpn provides me with a lot more security to show my location as the Uk instead of not using one! Cheers!
