Will getting a vpn affect internet access for my family?

So I’m a 17 year old living in a household of 4-5 (my family).

There are a bunch of shows that I really want to watch and can only be legally accessed through Netflix in the US. I have scoured the internet for a less legal site to watch them on, but nothing worth my patients was found.

I reckon the only option I have is using a vpn. But I’ve always been hesitant since I have no clue how it works/ what it is actually doing.

All I wanna be able to do is watch these shows on the US Netflix server. But I am worried this will affect the internet for my family.

My question is : if I were to get a vpn, would it only affect my computer, and do I need to know a bunch of stuff about my router to be able to connect? Will it do anything to my family’s internet (e.g. will it lock them from accessing it, or block certain things for them?)

Thanks for any help

would it only affect my computer

Yes.

do I need to know a bunch of stuff about my router to be able to connect?

No.

Maybe do a little bit of research to make sure the VPN works with netflix.

Streaming service block most vpns

Google “watch series”. Click the first option. Watch shows you want. There you go no vpn needed.

Really? Okay that is great!

I assume that means I just need to buy it and it doesn’t require much setup?

I suppose that depends on the vpn provider I choose right?

Really?

I thought that was the whole selling point of vpn’s?

Is there any way around that?

Until your parents receive an email from your ISP. You are giving bad advice here.

That’s terrible advice. Op will almost certainly get malware.

Believe me, I’ve tried looking through a bunch of sites. Nothing. None of them work well for me to even bother with.

Not really. You install it and connect. You don’t need to bother with all the safety features you’d use when torrenting since you just want it for NF.

And even those aren’t really anything advanced.

It depends. Often if they (an automated system) detect lots of connections from a single IP they will block it. I use vpns though to still connect to different places to watch stuff like F1 and my gf uses it to watch Netflix etc. You might just need to use a slightly slower but less uses connection. Often your vpn will auto connect to the fastest. Everybody is doing that. Some Vpn have hundreds if not a thousands of ip’s. Just making a few changes will greatly increase your ability to connect to another countries netflix etc. Some offer dedicated ip’s that will also help with this. There are people here with much better knowledge about this than I. But that is the basic gist of it.

Do you have any idea how streaming works? It’s not like torrenting, your ISP has no clue what you’re doing. It’s akin to a direct download. Jesus, turns out people on this sub are braindead. A letter from streaming lmao.

Only if he’s fucking stupid. Did you just say malware from a streaming site? Fucking how? Deliberately clicking on ads? Anyone with a brain uses ublock origin. It’s virtually impossible to get malware from a streaming site without being a fucking moron. There’s no downloading involved lmao.

What are you trying to watch? If it’s on US Netflix I doubt it’s not on watchseries. Try europixhd. Basically try any streaming site before resorting to paying for a vpn.

Okay thanks so much for your help!

I hope this works

Ahh okay awesome!

I had no idea about any of this, so I will definitely keep all that in mind

You’re the one who is braindead, your ISP can tell which sites you’re going to like known illegal streaming sites and report you to MPAA/RIAA. Have you any idea how your ISP allocates you a DNS and IP? that’s why you would use a VPN to tunnel around all that and prevent ISP spying. Sorry but you’re the one acting like an idiot here, educate yourself

Yeah I definitely know what I’m doing with the ads.

I’ve been watching anime from sites like this for years, I know how to get around the ads so it’s not like I am stupidly risking my security
