From what I see TD and CIBC won’t let you log in to your account if you’re using a VPN service. Seems like banks are calling it a security measure for customers. Any recommendations for frequent use chequing accounts?
Won’t work with VPN or won’t work with a VPN calling in from outside Canada?
I’ve never had an issue with RBC while using a VPN, either on my desktop or through the phone app. Also no issues with EQ.
Didn’t have problem with Tangerine using a VPN.
Never had a problem with TD. Usually use a US IP. What provider do you use?
Never had an issue with td
No issues with TD with NordVPN
Scotia didn’t work with PIA. I called and they said the IP was blacklisted. I asked PIA and they said many banks had blacklisted many of their IPs.
It’s probably not a general practice to blacklist VPNs, but rather VPN are often used by people-banks-don’t-want-on-their-turf.
No issue with accessing TD while on my org’s VPN. I’m usually prompted for 2FA, but I’m okay with that.
I typically set to a Canadian location and I’m in Canada
Is your PC still ‘clean’ or are they ‘inside’ your PC somehow making sure it’s safe to deal with you?
That’s what I would wonder, when they allow VPN.
I work with bank security, they’ll block VPNs if they are coming from a data center, typically. Essentially what I’d consider “low-effort” VPNs. You should look for a different VPN service that offers residential, or mobile IP addresses. This way it doesn’t look like your requests are coming from a server box in Amazon’s Canadian data centers.
Banks will also block IPs that are publicly available, even if residential, as well as temporarily block subnets if they show a large amount of suspicious activity, for example the IP subnet range 154.182.xxx.xxx may become blocked if it is displaying too much suspicious activity.
Not sure what you mean. But my VPN does come up as a VPN when you look up the IP.
My point is, they might have software inside your PC now, that can assure them that despite your anonymizing VPN (cloaking your IP address), they know your PC activities are safe because they’re monitoring it through running software. Or might not at all. Just a surmise on my part.
Maybe, I do all my banking on a private sever with a VPN.
