When VPN is turned off, ethernet stops working

Hello! I’m having a baffling (to me) problem with my network, where I can connect to ethernet fine with my VPN, but when it’s shut off, I get no internet access, although the “connected to ethernet” symbol remains. I’ve tried setting the ethernet to auto-acquire IP and DNS, (which it already was set to, so I took it off that and back on) and I’ve tried resetting my network settings. I’ve not tried clearing the DNS cache and manually entering DNS servers because I don’t feel I have the expertise or understanding to do that without risking really messing up something, but if y’all think that’s the solution, I’m willing to try (provided I can get slightly more specific help than “reset it” :p). Thanks!

EDIT: restarting the router fixed it. Didj’t think to try that because I hadn’t noticed any issues with other devices.

check your kill switch configuration.

already did, and it had no effect. probably worth mentioning that this is a problem that didn’t exist until recently, by which I mean I was able to toggle the vpn on and off just fine without running into this
ty for the advice regardless

does your nic run off of usb? if it does you might try changing usb ports. good luck with this.

Looks like it was a router issue, and restarting that fixed it. thanks again regardless! (gonna edit the post to solved shortly)
