When using Mullvad on Youtube

Hi everyone who has faced new issues with Youtube I just tried to watch a link here on reddit but its a link to youtube. and suddenly I had to confirm I am not a bot. I do not have a google account so I just closed the link. But I noticed lately this issues has started to occur quite often ?

It’s not just mullvad, Youtube is cracking down on VPNs this way. Create a throwaway Google account, keep switching servers until you find one that works or temporary disable VPN while you watch videos.

Copied from another similar post that I replied to:

YouTube doesn’t like people watching their videos without signing in anymore, especially on a VPN. There are multiple ways of getting around this with Free Open Source Software (FOSS) type apps or services, all of which can temporarily be disabled or denied by YouTube, and then work again soon after.

Piped (dot) video - watch videos on a browser.

FreeTube app (dot) io - desktop app for watching and downloading videos.

** Stacher (dot) io, and Tartube/Axcore from github - (both of which require the installation of ffmpeg, from ffmpeg (dot) org, to get 1080p plus videos) on desktop. These are video download options. I like Stacher best, especially the “prompt me” option to choose video &/or audio format, but Tartube has a lot of options in the settings.

*** Grayjay (dot) app from Futo - already had a cell app but now has a desktop app as well, and is probably the best overall option at the moment, IMO. Louis Rossman (RossmanGroup YouTube channel) has a recent video going over it. Futo has their own YouTube channel as well. Watching and downloading are available.

There are many other apps available as well. These are just the ones I’m familiar with. To be clear, you may temporarily get an error with all of these as well (with YouTube trying to make you login), but eventually it works again just fine without logging in. No idea specifically how it works exactly.

Get the Mullvad Browser Addon and set a working Proxy for Youtube only. For all other Homepages leave the Proxy blank.

This way you do not need to find the ‘‘perfect’’ VPN server.

Yeah, it is a pain. I just run freetube through split tunnelling with my original ISP IP address. Not the end of the world.

Refreshing the node works for me.

It requires phone number, no?
Sounds like the whole chain of alternative identity. :face_with_monocle:

Ok yeah I magine that Youtube seems to get desperate in many ways lol. I normally use Freetube but latest update do not work. it has issues showing any videos. But I maybe watch two videos in month. I honestly think Youtube has become a landfill I do not know why but many youtubers starts to annoy me lol please subscribed or sponsored by bla bla. But if it ends up being completely unwatchable its no problem for me. I no longer care about it. It was just a link I got but nice to know why.

Hi will check the different options out, but yeah google is very hostile towards anyone not wanting to pay for premium but they should have thought about from the beginning see what most of those so called service start giving everything for free meaning they make people custom to things are free. and it used to be that most places but now the internet has become a subscription paywalls more or less everywhere. Stop giving for free in the beginning and they would not have these issues. But would I pay for Youtube nope its not worth the content I once paid for one month way back in time, but then lots of Youtubers constantly sponsored but this and that. I though Why the F am I paying for this I do not care about their music or other services. My first computer was a commodore 64 then Amiga 500 1200 and a 2000. I seen so many internet services come and go, That I now one day companies like Facebook will fade into nothing like Twitter or whatever Elon called it these days. Same shit Silicon valley cowboys always been overrated and used to paid without showing anything. Unicorn concept and then endshittification Youtube is prime example of that

I agree and Freetube works perfectly fine for my need

Had to create a new Google account last year and there was no phone number requirement.

in life, free things always become pay things, so get used to it

Good old SOCKS apparently, I’m not using the add-on and i’d be surprised if Google should be fooled so easily, though maybe it’s good enough to get blocked “only” every other time or so. If you’re into wasting ever growing chunks of your lifetime playing hide-and-seek with dead machines on the internet. Else I think u/frostN0VA’s reply is as good as it gets.

can attest. i made a throwaway for an android emulator. process was painless. no phone number

I tried creating one this year and there was a requirement

Well probably yes beside the bad rep they have gotten, and all the their ads and tracking all over the internet and also facing anti trust lawsuits I do not think that part but yes they probably thought people would not noticed or get used to it but changing peoples habits is another beast lol. I personally do not care much about youtube I just dislike google for what they do, and especially how they do it. As I wrote I maybe in a good month watch two videos in a month. I think I just grew away from it or grew up.

It’s not about beeing free (as in beer), it’s about privacy.

My main issue with this company is the borderline criminal tracking and stalking behavior that shit should had been stopped many years ago. If I stalked you all over the place I will guarantee you that you would call the police and I would probably be in jail by now right ? 2 internet has become pay walled all over the place, but when internet started was meant free information access but as we all know, you get greedy suits in room with silicon cowboys then the whole thing goes to shit. I am wrong so far ? Beside they want to sell you a product and then harvest every goddamn data out of you at the same time, that is already how you paid before you paid a subscription, beside I am way to old to be lectured nothing in life comes for free so spare me for your pocket philosophy.

Yeah, this what tickled my curiosity – how non-residential ip of the proxy server is better than non-residential ip of a vpn server.

And I like the way you put it :upside_down_face: “playing hide-n-seek with dead machines on the internet”. Very descriptive and precise.

you can buy temp phone numbers. there cheap - the free ones wont work
