What's the story with Kodi and VPNs?

I recently switched from a Chromecast w/ Google TV stick to a Fire TV 4K stick. When doing some research to learn about the Fire stick I came across Kodi. I kinda sorta have an idea of what it is, but not really that much… so I’ve got a few questions:

  1. Is downloading Kodi legal? Or not?
  2. Is using Kodi legal? Or not?
  3. Why does every article or video about Kodi recommend using a VPN? How important is that? And what happens if you DON’T use a VPN?

If someone can answer these questions and maybe “nutshell” me on some Kodi basics, I’d appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!! :slightly_smiling_face:

VPN providers are also one of the biggest advertisers in town and most of the walkthroughs are trying to make a commission.

Stick to web based stuff with cloudflare enabled . Cloud based stuff exceeds Kodi . No apps

Kodi is 100% legal. The add-ons you install might let you stream pirated content.

Kodi runs on the Chromecast w/Google TV and many other devices also.

If you are using an add-on that uses torrents to stream then a VPN would be wise.

Also, if you intend to/or need a VPN on Kodi, make sure to read related articles on Troypoint about it.

As some VPNs work great with Kodi, while others not so good.

Don’t bother with Kodi. Get cyberflix Cinema HD instead.

Such as what, for example?

If you stream content found with a Debrid service you don’t really need a VPN since you will be streaming from their servers with TLS encryption anyway.
