What VPN works well in China?

Hi! I will be going to China on June and I was wondering what VPN to use especially that I will be bringing my work there. I still don’t have leave so I have no choice but to bring my work there. Also, does microsoft teams and firefox works there?

I was able to use Windscribe when I was there last week.

You might also want to check with your company to see if it’s OK to bring your work there. Sometimes they may provide a loaner laptop which they’ll wipe when you return.

Happy travels.

Proton VPN worked for me perfectly fine when I was there. Express VPN does too.

For mobile, buy an eSIM before you enter China, they bypass the firewall and you can just buy online. For your work computer, it is very likely your company already has some kind of VPN that wouldn’t bypass the firewall. Also likely you can’t get a VPN that bypasses their VPN and other security measures. Teams may or may not work depending on what security measures your company has implemented. I used NordVPN for my personal computer and it was on and off, hardly reliable but did work well enough at a point in time for me to buy an eSIM while in China (I had not done so before entering).

Astrill is usually the go to. It is expensive and can be slow, but it’s reliable in most places.

Teams works there - most Microsoft stuff is unblocked. Firefox also works - it’s a browser and not a website so isn’t subject to any blocking.

I highly recommend having a foreign SIM card or eSIM with data Roaming - as that is the best way to get both fast and uncensored internet.

Letsvpn works fine. And Microsoft apps are not banned in China

Numerous VPN services, including Express, Astrill, and Pure, are known for their reliability. I would strongly recommend using VPNs based outside of China rather than local Chinese VPNs, as personal use of VPNs is not permitted within the country.

Microsoft teams and firefox totally works well in China.

Ad: feel free to contact me if you wanna a perfect trip in China.

At my work you’d be fired if you brought work equipment to China.

Personally though, any vpn that runs double encapsulation is probably best for China. Like ipsec inside another TLS vpn.

They’ll outright block traditional vpn ports so you need to hide it in an TLS stream on port 443.

Expree vpn? Said online to be the best China VPN, offering top security protection, best features, and fastest speeds. Or TunnelBear vpn… Maybe you can try?

Pokefi with Chinese vpn data package

Does anyone have a VPN provider to recommend that has tried it in Yantai, Shandong?

Been to china recently. Halovpn free. Mullvad paid.

First of all if you ware going to Shenzhen, make sure you get Google Fi with Fixed plan (no flex plan) which would work without VPN. China throttles international traffic and even if you can connect to a VPN server, it will be very slow. China blocks most commercial VPN IP ranges.

Lastly setup your own VPN using either Outline or X-UI.

I suggest self-hosting your VPN server on your home network since residential IPs pass through GFW easier than datacenter IPs. Take a look at we-pn.com if you want to self-host without fuss.

My girlfriend was in china for 2 weeks i got her NordVPN and it was all great she could use Instagram,Whatsapp etc without any problem,so i guess NordVPN is good choice☺️

Nord is one of the best VPN among all time in China

100% check if you can bring devices - my work doesn’t allow any into China

Bingo. Check with your workplace, as there may be policies regarding bringing electronics that contain workplace information into China, ESPECIALLY if you work in specific industries.

I second this. I have 3 VPNs but the only reliable work around is to use my HK SIM card and tether.
