Hi Reddit, I need your help deciding on the best VPN for iPhone. With all the current events happening, I want to have a reliable VPN to be able to unblock certain websites, as well as reach content from all over the world.
I’m particularly interested in VPNs with strong security, user-friendly app, clear and audited no logs policy, and ofc the ability to access content.
I’ve considered free VPN but realized that they are completely unreliable, so I am picking between premium VPN providers only. I’ve gone through many recommendations (this post was rather useful), and the two that struck me the most were NordVPN and ExpressVPN.
NordVPN - I’ve seen a lot of positive reviews about NordVPN’s iPhone app, as it’s very user-friendly and has a neat design. Nord offers a bunch of specialty servers to help with geo-restrictions. From what I’ve read, users have successfully been able to unblock websites such as BBC iPlayer. What’s also good is their audited no-logs policy, which gives me peace of mind knowing they’re not collecting or storing user data…
Price-wise it’s around $3 per month plus a few months for free with the “redditoffer” coupon code I found in the VPNs comparison table.
ExpressVPN - the app also has great reviews on the App Store, with mentions of how easy it is to use. It appears to be good at unblocking the websites I need with the specialty servers and claims a no-logs policy. I am not sure how many servers they have, but they cover 105 countries. The downside is the price ~$5/month, which is steeper if compared to Nord.
Have you had any experience with these two VPNs? Maybe you know which is the best VPN for iPhone?
I’ve been using surfshark and it is quite solid
NordVPN is really good and you can get great discounts too if you shop around for discount codes, also buy it directly from their website from a laptop and not from the App Store to get the best price possible.
The only issue I face with Nord is that it likes to log you out every once in a while and you’ll have to re-login on the app, probably once a month. Other than that it’s been the best I’ve tried.
I 2nd Proton VPN. Also check out AdGuard VPN. I’ve also used Nord VPN. Can’t go with any of those.
Please ignore free VPN’s where the only offering is a free one. They are harvesting, storing and selling your data and you are the product.
The best 2 VPN’s I have used on iPhone have been either Nord VPN or Proton VPN.
Proton is great because they also offer other private and secure products. So if you don’t already have Encrypted cloud storage, Password Manager or Encrypted Email, it could be worth leaning towards this one!

I like Windscribe and it’s cheap
I use expressvpn and it’s fine. Can’t vouch for the security of any of them though.
I’ve tried a few and so far I like Proton the best. Some of the other big name ones, I always experienced marked speed decreases. I can’t tell when Proton vpn is running versus when it is not. I am on the west coast US and use it mostly connecting to either Canada, UK or Australia.
Nord had a data breach that they didn’t disclose for a period of time for a few weeks.
ExpressVPN and Proton for the wins.
I prefer to self host mine, Headscale with Tailscale. Don’t really use the “change country” part of a vpn, but if need be, I’ve heard nice things about Private Internet Access or Mullvad
I use proton for the vpn and also the email.
I use NordVPN & Windscribe. If one doesn’t work, the other one does for geo unlocking.
Windscribe has been solid!
I use NordVPN and so far pretty good.
But I have heard others recommending Proton VPN.
