Im looking for a vpn that is free or open source becasue im poor in a way, im looking to download various linux iso’s and random stuff that are hard to find. the thing is like most people i dont want my personal info leaked and what is tor ive been suggested it but what is it in simple terms. should i use tor and a vpn or can i only choose one?
what would you suggest? also im a noob when it comes to torrents and vpn’s.
In the VPN industry, you’re not going to find anything good that’s free or open source. For qbittorent or for any other reason for that matter, I’d just go with this VPN service. They’ve got the best prices + best service and it’s not going to weigh heavy on your pocket.
In my experience, you’re not going to find a good one for free. I used Mullvad until they announced they were discontinuing port forwarding, which is generally seen as necessary for torrenting properly. I switched to AirVPN and the speeds have been pretty good so far. Only about 8 bucks a month, less if you buy a multi-month thing. Just my 2 cents.
Most free VPNs sell your data; if you’re not paying for the product, you are the product. Also you’re misunderstanding the value of open source, at least in regards to VPNs. You can’t just compile and start hosting your own VPN just by having the code, you still need a server in that physical location to get any value out of it.
Suggestion: Buy a VPN (look at the stickied posts for recommendations)
The vast majority of Linux iso’s are free and open source so you won’t need a vpn
riseup vpn prob
ive checked out almost all the vpns and im the mod of /r/vpncomparison
its the only vpn that is free that isn’t super shadey, but prob has limitations in terms of speeds
Cloudflare WARP is free and works, just make sure to bind your vpn
I really hate that sneaky “it’s cheaper if you buy in bulk!” style, I was concerned about mullvad not having it at first, but in reality it’s saved me a lot of headaches since I was paying monthly, so there won’t be any issues switching off of them with the port forward removal. I see lots of people on here hopping on to the multi year plan of AirVPN, and I’m like “do you people never learn?” lol
Why would using different Linux distros make a difference?
Are you asking about how Linux distros can be different from one another? It’s mainly in identifying the distro’s target audience and setting sensible defaults and pre-installed software for that target audience.
Nope turns out I’m an idiot and misread OPs post. My bad
