What are the benefits of paid vs free malware/antivirus software?

It depends on which antivirus. Normally you get more features more than real time protection, such as VPN, password manager, identity protection etc.

Malwarebytes is decent, but Bitdefender is better. Kaspersky is also another option if you’re outside of the U.S.

Free antivirus can give you real time protecting web protection and ransomware protection but if you take Bitdefender free it gives you real time protecting web protection and advanced threat protection. Kaspersky free gives you more features but paid antivirus can give you more features such as a Firewall, Identity Protection, secure online banking and shopping, Privacy Protection, VPN, advanced virus check and removal feature and sometimes it gives you optimization tools for your pc
