Hi all, currently using vyprvpn purley because it came with my Giganews account. However, I don’t ever see them recommended so, are they any good? I’m not sure what to look for with a VPN.
Currently also looking at Earth (they seem the cheapest!), PIA, IBVPN… no idea what to look for! Is there really a difference between providers? Also, are OctaneVPN any good? They are been given away free with some Usenet providers. Any help would be appreciated!
VyprVPN is owned and run by a group of government insiders that run the usenet provider Giganews. The head of the group has some close connections to three letter agencies… Read it yourself here.
I just used the Pro trial for VyprVPN and what I will say is that the speeds are excellent, and the customer service (whilst a little slow) is top notch.
However, I have concerns about their privacy. If you’re just using it for Netflix or Hulu and getting around location restrictions, great. Go for it (but it’s a tad expensive).
If you’re using it for any reason involving privacy, get out.
The company policy says that logging data “is maintained for use with billing, troubleshooting, service offering evaluation, [Terms of Service] issues, [Acceptable Use Policy] issues, and for handling crimes performed over the service. We maintain this level of information on a per-session basis for at least 90 days.”
On Usenet forum NZBMatrix several users have reported having their VyprVPN service terminated after the company processed “a backlog” of DMCA notices which pushed them over the “two-strikes-and-out” acceptable use policy.
So, does VyprVPN log? You bet.
I would choose someone else.
PIA is a favorite on this subreddit, I use Proxy.sh.
Vyprvpn is a good but there are many out there better than Vyprvpn… try PurevPN, hidemyass, StrongVPN… or if you are still having trouble finding a good VPN visit a Best Review site. http://vpnwebsites.com/
What do people feel about Earth? And don’t suppose theres any good discounts for PIA? I always sign up to these things then there turns out to be a Reddit discount!
