VPN that supports port forwarding with Transmission

I use Haugene Transmission on my NAS with PIA to torrent currently. Recently some changes they’ve made to how their port forwarding works has caused my port to read as closed, which means I basically can’t seed anything to private trackers.

Combined with PIA’s acquisition by Kape, I’m considering hopping off for a different VPN provider. Nord and ExpressVPN come highly recommended, but googling tells me they don’t support port forwarding at all for security reasons.

Any recommendations? Ideally from someone who uses a similar setup for private tracker torrenting.

Mullvad does for sure.

Windscribe supports port forwarding.

Private Internet Access supports port forwarding.

I use hide.me with that exact docker container. It works quite well and port forwarding works as well

I had your exact setup. I was already paying for ProtonVPN so I just switched to that. Speeds seem to be the same. Maybe they still have a Black Friday sale going, but I paid for mine a while ago. I do the whole Mail and VPN bundle and I think it’s worth it, but it’s definitely not cheap.

PIA was driving me crazy the last few months — frequent disconnections and unhelpful logs. It would decide for an hour at a time to fail to connect, and then it’d work out of no where for seemingly no reason.

WeVPN added port forwarding a couple days ago! Works the same way as Mullvad’s system, you get upto 5 random ports

I will second Mullvad. Does a pretty good job though their Windows client is crap and unreliable. Kills LAN connectivity from time to time (nothing to do with WAN/Internet).

This. I’ve been extremely happy with Mullvad’s service on this docker image.

you need to rent a static IP from them to get more than 1 port, or longer than 7 days.

I’m aware, I had been using it flawlessly up to a couple months ago when they switched to their “Next Generation Network.” They temporarily disabled port forwarding while upgrading, and now that they’re upgraded, it hasn’t been working 100% of the time.

The port will report as closed for minutes or hours at a time, before reporting as open again through no intervention of my own.

I did the honors for you.
