Should i get Opera GX?

I’m thinking of getting an other browser instead of Chrome. I was thinking of Opera GX, because the features i have heard of. But i have also seen a lot of people criticizing it and i have seen a lot of other browsers that look good. Should i get Opera GX? Are there better alternatives? Or should i stay with Chrome?

Opera gx looks really cool and its really fast. But from privacy point of view it is one of the worst browsers.

I would suggest vivaldi. I use it as my secondary browser. However I think the user interface is really not user friendly, and the browesr itself is slower than other chromium browsers.

If you dont give a sh.t about privacy, check opera.

For performance and better consumption of ram I suggest you Brave
I have tried chrome, opera, vivaldi and I have settle down with Brave

if you don’t mind using proprietary browsers then I would recommend vivaldi over opera. https://vivaldi.com/

Quite a lot of the browsers features [but not all of them] are in the Vivaldi browser, you might want to give that a go first

It’s really fast and looks really cool. Although it has some good features, it isn’t a good browser when it comes to privacy.

I recommend Vivaldi. Currently, I am using it as my secondary browser. While it is faster than most other chromium browsers, I find the user interface really hard to use.

Check out opera if you don’t care about privacy.

I’d avoid it. Not just because of the the issues described when this came up a year ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/browsers/comments/prnp9z/is_opera_gx_really_that_good/

… but because of the feature claims:

  1. Resource limiter - I have my doubts that you can run any Chromium-based browser without a crazy amount of CPU/RAM. Even the lightest among them take up a ton of resources, and I’ve seen comments on the /r/OperaGX thread to that effect. So I’d be very surprised anything beyond the network usage limiter does anything.
  2. Discord - Running it inside your browser is not a good idea. The biggest reason to use that program is the host of smart audio tools built into the program. So it’s much better to run the pure client.
  3. Gaming - Brave added some optimizations (the owner of the company created Javascript), so that’s probably the direction I’d go if you only care about about speed.

All the other features I’m seeing on their page can be added with a few plugins on any other browser. If you don’t end up using all those features, that’s just extra resources and disk space. So as @FallCHeetah7373 points out below, if you’re looking into Opera, do yourself a favor and try Vivaldi first. All the solid browser people from back in the early days of Opera moved there and it shows.

What do you mean by privacy? Like are they collecting data for advertisements or are they legit spying on me? If spying doesn’t slow down the browser, i’m cool with that too.

Yeah, I also recommend the Brave - I was skeptical when I started to test it long time ago, but it became my main browser.
I can tell that consumtion of CPU and RAM is good, and also stability is great - never crashed for me on multiple machines.
I am also used to have opened A LOT of tabs, like 100+ nd often 150+ is a no problem for me
And I also have on some machines opened one instalnce of Brave for MONTHS… and it never crashed…

Opera is owned by a Chinese conglomerate since 2015, and I believe their privacy policy explicitly says that they share your data with a bunch of third party companies. If you are comfortable with that, than try it and see how it performs for you.

Edit: in case you go with Opera, just please don’t use the built in VPN. It is not a proper VPN and it has been proven to leak your data.

Bro I swear rn I have like 200 brave tabs opened on my android phone

Did not tested on any mobile phone, but I trust you that this is possible.
