So I’ve seen the posts about people getting banned when using VPNs while playing, and I realized I’ve been playing for months with a VPN on, but given the wave of bans I don’t want to risk it even though I haven’t had issue so far. My concern is that when I switch off the VPN and log in I could get banned. It’s one provided through my anti virus software that automatically turns on. Would it be best to preemptively email KI? Or should I just wait several days before logging in without the VPN?
Last week I sent an email asking just about that. Here is the response:
Just avoid embargoed countries and everything should be fine. I hope as well…
I work out of the country, and my only success is playing on a VPN. There are no issues with the VPN process, I’ve even skipped around in USA cities with no problems for the best of a month.
Using NordVpn by the way. You should be just fine!
Okay thanks, this makes me feel a bit better! I’ve kept mine set to the US but I was still worried about it
Thank you I feel a bit better hearing that!
Very important to note, some VPNs bounce through multiple countries before finishing in the target country. For instance, I (USA) could have a VPN set for the UK, but that VPN might bounce through Germany, Israel, and China before landing in the UK. Check your routing, not just your endpoint.
I didn’t even think if that, thank you for mentioning this I’m definitely checking. I’m in the US and just have my VPN set to a different state within the US but that’s a good point, thanks!
It’s not something most people think about, for sure. I ran into an issue with it on a different game a while back, which is the only reason I know to check. It’s almost never a problem, but if they’re banning based on location…
