PIA suddenly stopped working just half an hour ago

The servers are all listed as available, but I can’t seem to be able to connect to any of them anymore (“We couldn’t establish connection to the VPN server”).

My system is Windows 10. Tried updating the PIA client to 3.5.1 but that didn’t help.

Switching to the WireGuard protocol didn’t help.

Using multi-hop with a shadowsocks proxy didn’t help.

Sadly I can’t create a support ticket because the pia website itself is not available in my country.

Glad it’s not just me. Anyone have an update?

Pia vpn apps (android and win10) stopped working for me. Privateinternetaccess.com also is not opening. Looks like an attempt to blok it in our country.

Which country are we talking about that’s doing the blocking?

Same problem here. Tried changing protocol and activating multi-hop. Nothing seems to work. Client doesn’t even detect my IP address. And PIA website is blocked by my ISP.

Seems like a local problem (Russia). Does anyone who encountered this problem got in touch with the support? What do they say?

Same problem, downloaded another VPN to even access the website and submitted a support ticket just now. Hopefully it can get resolved.

Mine only works when I set it to wireguard protocol openVPN does not let me connect to anything currently.

What country? Maybe your country is blocking VPNs?

OK for me in the US. I was prompted for a software update this morning, ran it, and had no issues.

Same here but I am in Spain

Don’t worry, PIA! They can block our access, but not our determination! :flexed_biceps::grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Same thing here. PIA has been unstable in the past few days. Would want to know if that will be fixed or I should switch to a different VPN provider.

Same for IOS, app just crashes since update.

Same here.
RU

Win10 pro

v3.3.1

Buying the dedicated IP address in Switzerland worked for me.

Pretty sure it’s Russia. I’m in the same boat.

Hey everyone, before the update on the support ticket I wanna let everyone know that you should try connecting to other countries like Slovakia, I tried messing around with other connections and some of them still work. Now to the response I got from the support ticket:

Henry, Oct 18, 2023, 7:55 AM GMT+8:Hi,

Thank you for contacting Private Internet Access Support.

We understand that you’re experiencing difficulties connecting to our VPN service while in Russia. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you.

Unfortunately, due to the complex and ever-changing nature of internet restrictions in Russia, our VPN service may not be fully functional within the country. We are committed to staying updated and adapting to these developments to provide a reliable and secure VPN experience.

While we cannot provide an exact timeframe for when the connection will stabilize. However, you may consider trying the steps below:

The First option that you can try, is to change the connection protocol that your application is connecting over to WireGuard.

In order to change your application connection protocol please access your applications Settings navigate to the connection tab within your Desktop application and select the protocol WireGuard. From there you will be able to connect to your desired server location.

You may also try to enable the Multi-Hope feature. This feature may help you to hide that you are using a VPN. You may visit this link for a full guide.

Understanding the Multi-Hop Feature

OpenVPN Connect:

The next option that users can try is, setting up an OpenVPN Connection through the OpenVPN Application.

The OpenVPN application is a free, open-source application developed by the OpenVPN project. The OpenVPN Project is the same team that develops the OpenVPN protocol, the encryption protocol used at the core of most modern commercial VPN services.

For instructions on how to configure OpenVPN on your operating system please review the following guides:

  1. Windows 10 - OpenVPN Connect
    Mac OS - OpenVPN Connect
    MacOS - TunnelBlick
    MacOS - Installing OpenVPN (Viscosity)
    Android - OpenVPN Connect
    iOS - OpenVPN Connect

Configuration Files:

To generate their own configuration files for any region that they wish by logging into your Client Control panel located on the “My Account” page here. Once in, scroll down to the option “OpenVPN Configuration Generator” and select “Go to…”

Within this page, you will be able to configure your own configuration file for any platform with any region and port with the option to connect via an IP address instead of using the server name.

Note: If you are unable to access our website or log in to your CCP Please contact our support team for assistance in creating a configuration file for you or you can navigate to the following page and import our standard OpenVPN Config files.

I hope this helps. We’d like to keep you as one of our satisfied customers as much as possible. Please let us know how you’d like to proceed, and we’ll be glad to assist. Regards,

HenryPrivate Internet Access Support

EDIT: I tried the multihop method with shadowsocks and it seemed to have worked, it connects to every region again.

It’s impossible if the VPN’s doing its part and migrates from blocked nodes, ips, ports etc. to new ones and provides users with flexible configuration.

Glad I’m at least not alone in this!

Same here. Thinking moving to another provider.
They should at least have support on telegram, for example. Not on Facebook lol
