I just got NordVPN today and ran into an issue that doesn’t make any sense to me.
I have a 1000 Mbps internet connection, which I verified through Google speed tests. Without NordVPN, my speeds are great.
However, when I connect to NordVPN on my PC via Ethernet (using NordLynx or without), the speed maxes out at 50 Mbps.
Strangely, when I connect via Wi-Fi (5.0 GHz) on my phone, I get up to 200 Mbps without using mobile data.
Why is the Ethernet connection performing so much worse than Wi-Fi? Is there something I’m missing or need to adjust in the settings? Any help would be appreciated!
is your ethernet adapter showing full 1GB in link speed ? have you tried other protocols ? does nordvpn adapter also show 1GB speed ? have you tried changing servers and locations ?
Nord crates a virtual adapter, check the settings on it… It might be set to conservatively.
You may also think about split tunneling the traffic you don’t need in VPN’d like online games, streaming media, etc… applications that are heavy on internet traffic but don’t need hiding or protection.
During Trump Inauguration, most VPNs (HMA, Surfshark, Getflix, Privado) experienced slow downs.
Anyway, if 5G 5Mhz Mobile works, try to disable IPv6 from router and Wi-Fi adapter.
You can also try (30 days trial) Fing Desktop and Netlimiter to check what’s on on you Gigabit.
Of course, try elevayed CMD with “netsh winsock reset” command and flush DNS Cache.
I’d also try to forget the Wi-Fi on my PC and reconnect retyping the password.
To force 5 Ghz on you Wi-Fi adapter, I would choose 802.11 a instead of a/b/g.
Afterward there’s a diagnostic engine in NordVPN app you can use.
is your internet actually slower? Sometimes the speedtest sites arent always accurate.
I used to use the Google Wifi router and it would say my speed was less that 10 Mbps, but I could load 4k videos from like youtube or Netflix pretty fast.
Can you test by sharing a file via meshnet or try streaming or downloading something large?
Sorry, you’re having problem with Ethernet: disable and re-ebable DHCP on router, try a different DNS (e.g. 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1) on TCP IPv4 config on adapter PC (and disable IPv6)
