Just shopping around and wondering is anyone in China using Nord?
Nord and Express are heavily marketed and neither of them work well in China.
Try Astrill or Windscribe
Not sure about Nord, but I can say expressvpn sucks from experience.
Letsvpn is cheap and really consistant, but I hate toggling the vpn on and off when I need to use a Chinese app that doesn’t work if a vpn is in use.
Astrill is a lot more expensive, but it’s consistent and it offers split tunneling so you don’t have to turn it on and off when using a Chinese app. It’s also good if you are into gaming because you can use the Japan location and it’s relatively quick.
Nord and Express are useless trash at this point. Remember the basic rule of VPNs, the more they spend on YouTube ads and marketing, the less their service actually works as advertised in China!
I’d say no, I arrived on Tuesday, just gone and tried Nord and Express VPN’s, both are shoddy and don’t work well with the great firewall. I’ve been using Astill for 2 days now and have not had a single issue either with WiFi or a China Mobile SIM card data.
I’d recommend Astrill over all the others any day. It is a lot more expensive, though, at $180 for a year
I’ve never heard anything good about any VPNs that have ad spots on YouTube.
It was unusable earlier this month. Only Astrill and Witopia worked for me.
Astrill is the best. Expensive but worth it
It did not work for me. Only astrill.
also just to add… vyprvpn aka golden frog also doesn’t work.
No, no, no, no, no aaaand… NO. Utter garbage.
Ass drill, or a shadowsocks thing.
It doesn’t work. I tried it and got a refund after finding it doesn’t work. Also its so expensive compared to anything else. I use LetsVPN.
Spend a little more and get mullvad. Never had any issues at least according to my cousin who works overseas in China.
LetsVPN is what I use, way cheaper than the alternative and works great.
I’ve been in China 3 weeks on this trip. LetsVPN is fantastic. It’s super fast and reliable.
Hongkong location only on lower price tier. Fine for most services but not TikTok. For that, and getting home Netflix, etc you’ll need the premium service
Also TikTok won’t work if a Chinese sim is active. I used TikTok almost entirely from a tethered iPad
I use Windscribe’s outside China, but here is a case of trying various servers and expecting low speeds or no connection. Too much bother
I suspect nordvpn is even worse despite what review sites say as they engage in lots of paid sponsorship
Thanks for the replies and comments on NORD, I guess it’s a miss.I’m on LadderVPN for my phone and StrongVPN for my PC. I’m happy with LadderVPN but StrongVPN is a hit or miss depending on what day od the week it is.
Thanks for crowd sourcing the replies and comments on NORD, I guess it’s a miss.
Clash is the best in China. Even TOR is usable with clash
No everything in China sucks I don’t know why you’d wanna be there if you’ve had a taste of freedom.
I just landed in Shanghai and so far NordVPN (using the ‘obfuscated server’ choice) is working very well. I’ll report back in a day or two whether that continues to be true (and I guess if I don’t report back maybe it means it stopped working lol)
Update: Im silly. It was working on my 4g connection but it seems that connection has a built in VPN anyways. Once I got on a local wifi network, Nord was not very effective
Been using Astrill for years, never heard of Windscribe. Is it any good or better than Astrill in terms of cost/uptime?
