“No direct connections” using NordVPN proxy

Nord doesn’t support torrenting or port forwarding. So you will never get direct connection using it. You need to switch to a better VPN.

The proxy is configured correctly according to the test magnet at ipleak.net

I had to reinstall Windows 10 and used that as an opportunity to take the jump from µTorrent build 25302 to qBittorrent, but I can’t get incoming connections to work.

Before the reinstall, everything worked fine with µTorrent. upnp worked with the router.

I’ve tried without the proxy, but that doesn’t help.

The only thing I can think is different is that before the reinstall I used Avast, now I’m using Windows Defender. And qBittorrent is set to be allowed through Windows Defender Firewall.

If uTorrent worked with uPNP on the router then it wasn’t using the VPN tunnel… think about it.

As others have said, you need a different provider Port forwarding: Setup, types, risks, and relation to VPNs | NordVPN.

Are you plugged in, dude?

Do you think everyone has been seeking VPNs that support port fowarding just because they like having their choices narrowed down to 3 or 4 VPNs?

You won’t get a direct connection without port fowarding. You can turn uPNP on, which opens a port locally but then the connections will be direct to you…which defeats the purpose of the VPN.

Either find a VPN that supports port forwarding OR deal with being a passive node.

What do you mean it doesn’t support torrenting? They have a guide on how to do it.

NordVPN doesn’t support port forwarding, so if you tunnel your traffic through them then you can’t have incoming connections.

I am running into the same issue as the OP here …

for future reference, what VPNs would support port forwarding? (asking for a friend)

Read my post, I explained how it doesn’t support it. Without a forwarded port it will not function properly.

AirVPN is one I use. I did research them beforehand but I don’t remember about the alternatives. As of 2023 there aren’t many

This is misleading. Torrenting works without port forwarding, it’s just you can’t connect to other users on the internet who didn’t port forward. Not sure about the proxy, but nord has a specific category for p2p.

Proton VPN and Windscribe as well, although neither supports static/long-lived port forwarding. Both only provide ephemeral port-forwarding that you need to renew on a regular basis (I think it’s every 7 days for Windscribe)

Edit: you can actually get a static IP (with static port-forwarding) on Windscribe as an option. It’s $2/month on top of your Pro subscription. Note that it’s not dedicated, so you will share that IP with other users, but you will get a static port forwarding just for you on that IP.

So, you agree it won’t work properly. It’s not misleading at all, its the facts. Nord sucks, there are other better VPNs.

Nord doesn’t support torrenting

You didn’t say “properly support”. You are being obtuse for the sake of shitting on NordVPN, which is unhelpful.

I’ll let you have your thing but I agree nord suuuuuucks. Waiting for my 2 year plan to expire

You’re digging this up after a year? How much is Nord paying your Mr. Shill?

I got to this post after a Google search. I have NordVPN and was looking for some helpful information. Your comments were so particularly unhelpful and had such a shitty attitude I thought it necessary to comment on a year old post. As someone with no stake in the game, I hope you understand just how damning that is about your behavior, and how ugly your responses are even now.
