Mullvad keeps dropping connection

I’ve have had this issue before, but usually a reinstall does the trick. Not this time though.

As soon I as start any torrents, mullvad will drop the connection, reconnect after a few seconds, and drop it again. This keeps happening till i pause all torrents and then it works fine.

I tried completely uninstalling it, restarting my pc and reinstalling it. Issue persist. I’m using the app on my Windows 10 VM.

Is there anything else I can try? I contacted their support, but was hoping I could resolve it on my own :frowning:

Is your internet properly configured on the VM?
Also, how do you torrent, client?
Open ports?
Lots of variables here

Are you running Mullvad on the host or guest? have you tried to disable or add exceptions in both machines firewalls? Does it matter what VPN protocol and port you’re using?

Using it on a native W10 system (R7, X570 Intel LAN) and got the same problem, it’s driving me nuts!

During intense downloads (YouTube video, tidal Master stream) its basically a loop of (no network; internet access) on my wired connection. I have tried enabling “always require VPN” and deactivating “local network sharing” (which I usually use). I feel like its more common with wireguard connections.

I circumvent dropouts with a Wi-Fi stick, but that’s a shitty solution eating up another USB port.

Just signed up. First thing this morning, dropped connection. :(. I changed from another company because they kept dropping, too. Have had five different providers in about 10 years. Not satisfied with any of the others–especially customer service. Was hoping that with its excellent reputation for respecting privacy, Mullvad would be THE one. But if connections continue to drop, this would be a deal breaker.

Is your internet properly configured on the VM

Yes.

Also, how do you torrent, client?

Qbittorrent

Open ports?

Port is open. No issue here. Verified that everything is connectable and port is open.

Mullvad on guest. No issues with firewall since it works for 1-4 weeks at a time. Not sure what triggers the issue.

Tried both wireguard and openvpn with different ports. Same issue. Tried wireguard client and same issue here.

Still having the issue now and then. Every time I think I found an solution, it happens again. Support was sadly useless.

Does it happen if you run mullvad and your torrenting client on the host?

Yes.

I actually tested on completely different machine to make sure. Also tested in linux vm, windows vm using both hyper v and virtualbox. Same issue.

I’m running out of ideas

Might be your ISP throttling VPN traffic then, have you tried using bridges?

have you tried using bridges?

What do you mean exactly? Im ready to try anything

The bridges feature in Mullvad found in Settings → Advanced → Bridge Mode → “on” This makes use of shadowsocks and should make your traffic look like normal https traffic, it might help if your ISP is throtling your traffic.

Same issue.

This is so weird. Might be worth it to try another vpn provider?

Late to this thread, but I don’t see “Bridge Mode” in the Advanced settings pane. Has Mullvad done away with this feature?

I guess you could try.

It was changed in the last client update, set your tunnel protocol to openvpn and look under “OpenVPN Settings”

I’m open to any troubleshooting steps if you have any? Not sure what more I can try though :frowning:

Sorry, I don’t really have any other troubleshooting steps you can try. If you try another VPN and tell me the result it could help to identify where the problem lies.

I got a free trial at AirVPN and I have absolutely no issues with them. Does that give you any idea what might be the issue?
