I never tried a VPN before. I thought about trying the new one Mozilla offers. I understand it will hide my IP address so I can access specific websites that I otherwise would not have access to. I only know the general “stuff” regarding VPN. I would appreciate it if maybe you guys could give me the positives and negatives about using a VPN. Do I ever need to use one? Is it worth it? Just wondering if it is something I should explore or if it is basically a tool to gain access to stuff I will be just fine without.
Is there anything I should be aware or cautious of? I have never used a VPN or anything but wanted to check it out. would it conflict with like my streaming stuff on Streamlabs and Twitch
It’s easier to talk to people about this stuff than looking it up on Google. Thanks
I don’t know about the pros and cons of this one in particular, but here are what a VPN will do for you :
It will only give a security advantage if you’re browsing insecure (read without HTTPS) websites on a public access point, by making your traffic impossible to be plainly read by anyone on the same public access point.
If the VPN has multiple locations, it can help you circumvent region locking for certain websites, with the biggest ones being video streaming services like Netflix
It can help you hide your traffic from your ISP, but :
When you use a VPN, you are sending all of your traffic to a single entity, giving them the power to do whatever they want with it. You have to trust your VPN provider not to do anything with it. (Some claiming a no-logging policy have been found to be lying)
Besides that, it will not change how you normally use or browse the web.
A VPN can be a useful tool to help hide your immediate location, but shouldn’t be relied on entirely. If you do want to pay for one, Mozilla’s isn’t a bad choice.
I used Mozilla VPN with Streamlabs to multistream to Facebook and Twitch recently, and I found that the upload connection is not stable. I’m not sure what kind of settings that I should set. I’m clueless on how to solve the issue.
