While HotSpot Shield on my laptop runs continuously, on my iPhone (wifi and cellular) and iPad (wifi) it often drops off in the middle of surfing the web or using an app. Then i have to relaunch “settings” and manually reconnect.
So I switched to Tunnelbear and the same damn thing keeps happening. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a VPN.
Is there any way to configure these services to automatically rejoin the VPN when it gets disconnected?
Or is there a different VPN service that does this reliably?
Thanks for your help!
I used to use hotspot shield on my phone, this doesn’t exactly answer your question, but if you go into app info (pull down from top & long click green shield) and force stop the app it will close hotspot shield without disconnecting from the VPN connection, this removed ads and made everything a lot smoother so it could help :S
I now use FrootVPN which I’ve found to be a lot better & easier, you could give that a go
I would think most OpenVPN clients will do this. Your using a client provided by Hotspot I assume. I’m not sure if they let you configure to your own client but if they do then choose a client that does what you want.
I have been using PureVPN for long on all my devices. It works fine and I am happy.
What works better? Frootvpn or pia? Noob to vpns.
Is there an option for OpenVPN? I have found setting it up via L2TP makes it disconnect.
Oops I’ve just realised you said iPhone… the hotspot shield tip is for Android only
Still you could try froot, it isn’t an app you download, you just set it up yourself. I know it works well on iOS because I use it on my iPod touch
The HotSpot Shield works great on my laptop and I paid for the service so there’s no ads.
The problem is on my mobile phone and tablet, where the VPN disconnects randomly and then doesn’t automatically reconnect.
This leaves me vulnerable to having my traffic out in the open until I realize the “VPN” bar is missing at the top of the menu and have to go into “Settings” and reconnect.
Thanks for any advice you may have!
So you don’t have this issue with the VPN disconnecting?
Froot = free, PIA = cheap, wide amount of servers, highly configurable (they support a variety of encryption algorithms and ports unlike most VPNs)
Are you paying for it, or using the free version?
If you’re paying for a VPN then why bother with Hotspot?
Pia is the one all that applies to?
Hotspot Shield is a VPN provider.
Yeah I know that. I’m just saying they are a VPN provider people use when they want a free one. There are better solutions if you are paying for a VPN.
