Post 500Mb fiber here, flawless (but replaced the crappy Fritz router with a proper Asus Gaming one)

VO fibre here … fully satisfied customer.

I’m far out in a super small village and we just got fibre installed (not yet working) up to now it was a crappy dsl (around 8Mb down, some ridiculous few Kb up), or 4G router (although coverage is limited, so router in the attic with an antenna). BUT NOW FINALLY FIBER so no complaints anymore.

Very good. VO fiber here. Never had any problems.

Pretty decent when on fibre

Tango Fiber is pretty good. Never had issues.

From my calls with colleagues I can tell you it’s not the most stable

But could be that they are not on Fibre, issues with vpn etc.

Im fully expecting people to complain, exactly just as anytime public transport/bike infrastructure or something similar is mentioned.

The internet here is super unstable, and the prices are exorbitant for what you get compared to the UK for example.

Also, this whole deal where you have to sign 2 years contracts is really messed up. This should simply not be allowed. It’s horrible for the consumer.

What does an upgraded router do? I’m constantly having to unplug my fritz.

How did you make the proper settings to get the fiber working? The fritzboxes they provide are pre-set for that, but to make it on a third party router requires certain level of knowledge. Do you have a link to the proper information on this? Would be highly appreciated!

People are quick to blame their own broadband, but almost all the problems with videoconferencing are to do with the service or some other element involved (router config/crappy routers, other network devices, interference, VPN etc.), rarely the home or office connection itself. You can have a perfectly adequate video call with as little as 2mbps, so raw bandwidth is almost never the issue.

Source: I do this stuff for a living and spent a significant portion of the early covid period poring over testing logs for Teams, WebEx, Zoom, Skype etc. calls to identify bottlenecks and improve call quality.

apart from.the other commenters points, some people don’t know the limits of WiFi, and plenty of calling tools (i.e. Teams) hit their limits during covid

The difference is that our Internet is pretty decent nearly anywhere in our country, meanwhile public transport sucks ass as soon as you leave Lux City.

Or the two things you named are just in a pretty bad shape. Internet on the other hand is top tier, you have to give credit where it is due.

It depends on where you are. I had decent enough VDSL (70mbps) in the UK, but folk just down the road were on ADSL and struggled to get much above 2mbps. This was a rich, leafy village in the home counties, only a few miles outside the M25. The connection was OK, but semi-regular drop-outs were expected.

Here, I pay a little more but have fibre (was 500mbps, now 1gbps) which has been 100% reliable since 2017 when I moved here. 100mbps on fibre here is not much more than the VDSL service in the UK from a comparable provider.

BT etc. force you to take a two year contract too, it’s hardly unique to Lux.

You only need the login information and configure a PPPoE connection on vlan35. That’s for internet, and should work for any provider that’s using post infrastructure. If you want to use telephony and ITPV it gets more complicated.

That’s interesting! Thanks for sharing
