The kill switch article at surfshark.com seems out of date (How to use Kill Switch – Surfshark Customer Support).
The description for kill switch here is “Disable internet access when VPN connection drops or is turned off”.
But in the latest Mac client, the description is “Kill Switch reconnects you and maintains the connection in case of any disruptions”.
What’s with this new weird description of the kill switch?
Is it going to do what the kill switch traditionally does?
Update re: automod message:
The answer given by the support team was not straightforward. It was a yes/no question but the answer seemed to beat around the bush, only repeating what it says above: “kill switch will reconnect you” - but wtf does that mean? I’ve never seen this definition of kill switch before.
Killswitch works a bit differently on different devices but the main principle is the same.
Windows and Android - kills your internet if the VPN disconnects. While the killswitch on macOS continuously tries to reconnect. There’s a possibility to download a dmg app beta version where the killswitch works exactly like on windows/android.
My experience with this is based on numerous conversations with customer support. Basically their message to you is this:“Hey, don’t worry! Kill switch works, we’re sure!”.
I couldn’t get a clearer answer, and have since stopped torrenting with Surfshark.
I concluded there is no KillSwitch on MacOS. That description they have on the AppStore version is a joke.
On Windows, if the KillSwitch is activated and the VPN isn’t connected, the whole system is blocked from accessing the internet. In MacOS, absolutely nothing happens in that case. No protection at all.
I’ve already exchanged several emails with them. They won’t even recognize the problem. They just suggest again and again that I reinstall the app.
I have contacted support but did not get a straightforward answer.
Hi, could you please share the link for the beta version ?
This isn’t a beta right ? it’s the same as on the App store ?
