Is VPNUnlimited now useless?

I have been using VPNunlimited for quite awhile to torrent. Recently it stopped working. Internet in general came through but torrents stayed in “downloading metadata” mode forever. At some oint I realized that if I used their servers designated just for torrents that they started back up. Great. Then after another week or two it stopped working again. As a test I tried using mulvad rather than VPNUnlimited. Things started working again. So now my conclusion is that VPNUnlimited is blocking Torrents maybe ? I’m happy tpo switch except that I do have a year pre-paid on VPNUnlimited.

How’s Mullvad compared with NordVPN?

I made a post about this topic about three months ago.

I started having the same issues so i googled and found your post. Not only does it get stuck, but it also leaks your IP.

It was okay value for 16$ for 1 year, but the vpn is dead to me.

You need to use one of three servers, then it works.

Ive had unlimited for 8-9 years. Got a lifetime plan when they were relatively new. And though I knew they were some form of eastern European, I didn’t do my homework beyond that. Makes sense now

So much better it’s almost incomparable. Nord has a very sketchy track record with keeping user data private. They also don’t support port forwarding which can increase speeds of torrenting by a lot. Mullvad supports port forwarding and has as solid a track record u could ask for, for over 10 years now. Speeds should also be a lot faster on Mullvad which is especially important if you have fast broadband.
Also, Mullvad doesn’t collect any user data at sign up, no username, email or password so you literally cannot receive a copyright notice unlike on services such as nord where they collect a lot of user information at sign up.

Pro for Mullvad: doesn’t try to force you to make a new password every couple months.

Pro for NordVPN: their app supports temporarily pausing (and automatically resuming) your VPN connections after set amounts of time, which is very useful for the occassional app / website that blanket blocks VPN connections.

Thanks for confirming.

Their service has been down frequently since the war started

This mentions that many of their employees are Ukrainian

It does when their service is down and irregular because of invasion. I just tested their service and I am still unable to connect in the US. When I first had this VPN it was 100% Ukrainian owned. I still get periodic emails from the company and their CEO is Ukrainian and based in Ukraine. It still appears that their service is still based in Ukraine and has not been reliable since the war started. I am 100% not criticizing them for it, but it’s a simple useful fact in this context. If you are trying to use their service for anything, it’s probably not working right now and that reason is because they’re being invaded by Russia
